The VW bus is the forefather of the motorhome and a good 70 years after its birth it is still the benchmark in its class. But last year, a big step towards e-mobility was taken with the fully electric ID.Buzz. But as far as the purely electric successor to the California is concerned, fans still have to be patient. So far there are only the car and the cargo variant. According to Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, the mobile home variant of the ID.Buzz will not be available until 2025, when the long version of the Bulli-Stromer will also be presented. But if you don't want to wait that long, there is now an alternative. An expansion of the ID.Buzz for campers celebrated its premiere at the Caravaning Motor Touristik Messe (CMT).

The small manufacturer Alpine camper specializes in mini campers and transforms the Stromer into a hip "Vanlife" vehicle. However, at handsome prices. According to company boss Michael Zaiser, the ID.Buzz is currently the only van that is suitable for upgrading to an electric camper, as it has a realistic range of 300 to 350 kilometers and can be charged 80 percent with the DC fast charger with a maximum of 170 kW in around 30 minutes are reached. The Alpinecamper extension is based on the cargo variant of the ID Buzz, so it offers space for three passengers in addition to the driver's seat. Behind them on the left is a bench seat that can be extended into a 1,95×1,20 meter double bed. Underneath is a drawer with a compressor cool box and two storage cupboards.

On the right there is a small kitchenette with an induction hob and mini sink with 12 liter fresh water and waste water containers and storage compartments for kitchen utensils. A lifting roof from Reimo also guarantees enough headroom in this area. But the fact is that the variant with a short wheelbase (4,71 meters overall length) is only suitable for two people at most. So far, however, Michael Zaiser has not given a specific price for the prototype. However, it is well above €80.000 (including €64.000 for the VW Van). For Alpinecamper it is the first e-car expansion project. But there will be more soon.

Of course, that wasn't the end of it!
