One thing is certain, this one 1965 VW bus as a Restomod is no Hippie van. Because he hides an air-cooled boxer secret under the sheet metal. And you definitely see that the classic not at. The legendary Volkswagen was made by RS Autosport from South Africa built, and even if there are a few corner points that something is "strange" about the bus, an indication of one Engine Swap we can "almost not" see it on the outside. The Volkswagen type 2which, depending on the body type, is known as a transporter, station wagon or bus, was first launched in 1949. The first generation was built for 17 years and was extremely popular. But the car we see today is one Split-screen variant from 1965. And it was turned into something few would suspect.

more Porsche RS than VW T2

The Team of RS Autosport usually deals with the Porsche brand and especially brings old classics from Zuffenhausen back to life. When Anton Roux, co-owner of RS Autosport, bought the bus, the plan was simple. He wanted the classic from cover to cover restore how you do it every day with vehicles from Porsche. And then, by chance, during the restoration process, he discovered that the bus was relatively identical (almost exactly) to the bus in terms of width and wheelbase Porsche 964 is. And so the idea was born, one Carrera 4 bus to build. But, even if it sounds easy on paper, the team ended up needing more than 4.000 working hoursto complete the project. There were innumerable complications, especially with regard to changing the steering column, the installation of Fuel tank and various details about the installation of the Transmission. But the end result is nothing short of spectacular.

286 PS and 340 Nm torque

The bus is now running on one 964 Carrera 4S chassis including chassis and is of course also from the legendary Six-cylinder boxer engine driven. But from a newer one. And from the Generation 993 of the Carrera. A is installed 6-cylinder boxer engine (Four-stroke) with 286 PS and 340 Nm torque. Although the bus is nowhere near as aerodynamic as a 964, it is still much, much, much faster become. Visually, however, they were extremely restrained. The bus carries a typical Two-tone paint and countless Chrome components as we know it. Only the silver one Porsche wheelset just like the one behind it Porsche sports brake system with the big ones yellow saddles are a striking detail from the present. Less noticeable, however, are the successful newfangled headlights LED daytime running lights (not to be seen in all pictures). They continue to show up in OEM optics, are at the same time very modern.

more or less heavily rebuilt interior

And it is relatively similar in the Interior. Of course, this is also completely restored, but at the same time "relatively" minimally changed. These are the most noticeable features digital instrument cluster, the sporty Aluminum steering wheel with Wooden wreath, the Leather sports seats, the Sports pedals and the new one Center console with open shift gate. However, the most important properties of a bus are still there. It is practical and transports people from A to B. At least two more! If we get more information about the changes, there is of course an update for this report. You will be informed of this if you simply do ours Feed subscribe to.
