We here in the former GDR know the BA3-2101 (Designation in Germany: WAS-2101, international: VAZ-2101, Soviet Union: Shiguli) from the Schiguli series manufactured by AwtoWAS as Lada 1200S, 1300 and 2101. In Russian vernacular, the sedans of the VAZ-2101 model series were often called “Kopeika”, which means penny / penny in German. At that time it was something like a 3-series BMW for us in the East, while Trabant or Wartburg interpreted the VW Golf. The VAZ-2101 was a License replica of Fiat 124 and at the end of production, which started on April 19, 1970 and was discontinued in 1988, one counted around 4,7 million vehicles.
