Braked - Volvo launches 180 km / h limit from 2020

Volvo wants to make a decisive contribution to reducing the number of traffic deaths in road traffic. Therefore, the manufacturer decided to take a drastic measure. Starting from 2020 no new Volvo is to drive faster than 180 km / h. Volvo wants to achieve this with an electronic limit as we know it from the voluntary 250 km / h mark. The manufacturer is convinced that driving too fast jeopardizes safety on the road. According to Volvo, the current speed limits are not enough to make the driver aware. The manufacturer wants to help motorists to assess the risk of speed. In our opinion, this is more of a paternalism because it seems that the driver is no longer in control of the vehicle over 180 km / h.

How many accidents happen in cities and how many on highways beyond the 200 km / h? We are not sure if this is the right starting point. Similarly, we consider it questionable to slow down vehicles via satellite in the environment of hospitals or schools automatically. This idea has also been put forward by Volvo. On the other hand, efforts to combat alcohol or distraction at the wheel are much more interesting. We are curious what the Swedes will realize in the near future. In all likelihood, however, the demand for chip tuning and the associated abolition of the electronic limit of Volvo's maximum speed will inevitably increase, at least in this country.
