A Volvo 244 from the 70s is definitely anything but a performance vehicle. On the one hand, it was extremely durable, but on the other hand it was edgy like crispbread. And some of it even has German roots. The world’s first diesel six-cylinder in the 1979 GLD244, introduced in 6, was developed in cooperation with Volkswagen. However, this engine was one of the most unreliable engines in the Volvo 240/260 generation. No comparison, for example, to the V6 petrol engine, which emerged from a joint development with Peugeot, Renault and Volvo (PRV) and was supposed to become a V8. Compared to the engine, which is now working under the hood of this fiery red specimen, all the variants installed at the time are a joke.

a 2JZ engine in the Volvo 244

Vladimir Lyadov had captured the unique piece in front of the lens and the Swedes with successful pictures for Speedhunters magazine and posterity. The edgy Swede built in 1980 received the 2JZ engine (3.0L 2JZ-GTE) of the Toyota Supra, which produces about 6164 hp using the Master Power MPR1.000 turbocharger, Turbosmart ProGate wastegate, large intercooler, 600 cc injectors and some other changes. The 6-cylinder sends the power via a Sachs racing clutch in cooperation with a BMW GS6-37DZ transmission (from 1er 3er 5er, manufacturer ZF) via specially adapted BMW drives and axle components exclusively to the rear wheels. And the bright white painted rims are something very special. The rim star comes from a Ford Mustang from 1966 and was re-encoded (widened) with highly polished OZ rim beds.

The formerly narrow 15 x 7 inch aluminum frames became mighty 17 × 9,5 inches at the front and 17 × 12 inches at the rear. And if you look closely, you can also see a modified brake system through the narrow openings of the aluminum. A system from Brembo (Big Brake Kit) is installed, which uses red calipers and appropriate brake discs to ensure a deceleration appropriate to the species. So that the wheelset is consistently widened by 80 mm (Fiber extensions) Wheel arches, there was a specially adapted Airride air suspension with a 24 liter tank and two built-in compressors. The rest of the body is kept fairly clean and only reveals small changes at second glance, such as the quick-release fasteners in the hood, the modified front apron or the completely red taillights. And the cabin is completely turned to the left.

ultra-light Kevlar seats from GA Racing

An individual interior is installed with light Kevlar seats from GA Racing including sport belts, there is an L-Tec sports steering wheel, a new gear lever and a new fitting. Only the built-in tablet as a digital instrument cluster destroys the successful vintage style of the cabin with check pattern and brown leather as we find. Many other details, such as the perfectly fitted roll cage in white, the special gear lever up to the check pattern on the headlining, on the other hand, are very successful and make the cabin look no less spectacular than the entire body. And that this vehicle is not a trailer queen is shown in the following video, which successfully stages the 244, from the original car to the small Carporn and some driving shots. If we receive timely information on further changes not previously mentioned, there is of course an update for this report.
