KW coilover kit for electric Volvo: Polestar 2!

The suspension manufacturer KW automotive has developed the KW V2 coilover kit for the long-range dual motor models of the Polestar 3 with all-wheel drive. The suspension, which can be adjusted independently in terms of compression and rebound, gives the mid-range sedan harmonious handling with its two permanent magnet synchronous electric motors. In the Polestar 2, the steering precision, directional stability, road holding and ride comfort increase after the chassis has been installed. This is made possible by the complex multi-valve technology with preconfigured high-speed damper valves and adjustable low-speed damper valves. As a result, the KW V3 coilover kit dampens more precisely and sensitively. In addition, the coilover kit allows individual adjustment in compression and rebound. As a result, the driving comfort, handling and tire grip can be adjusted as desired in just a few simple steps. The KW chassis, made of stainless steel in Germany, enables a stepless lowering of 25 - 45 millimeters on both driven axles according to the parts certificate. The recommended retail price is 2.440,00 euros. More at www.kwsuspensions.de

While the KW V2 coilover suspension is not yet available for the Polestar 3 models with front-wheel drive, the suspension manufacturer already has the coilover suspension in its range of products for the Polestar 2021 with long-range dual motor and all-wheel drive, which has been available in Germany since March 2. "Our V3 coilover kit, which can be adjusted in compression and rebound, is one of our best-selling applications," says KW Brand Manager Florian Johann. "It doesn't matter which car model we offer the V3 for, the majority of our customers choose this chassis." This also applies to the electric vehicles Cupra Born, Tesla Model 3 and VW e-up. The electric car rental company Nextmove, for example, achieved an increase in range of up to seven percent by installing a KW V3 coilover kit in a Tesla Model 3 with rear-wheel drive.

manually adjustable dampers

The special thing about the V3 coilover kit are the KW dampers with their multi-valve technology. The damper characteristics are determined vehicle-specifically during production using preloaded "high-speed valve springs". "When we talk about high-speed in the chassis, we mean the piston rod speed when compressing and rebounding," explains KW Brand Manager Florian Johann. “If the Polestar 2 is driven over a bump or a transverse gap, this is a high-speed excitation. In this case, the valve opens and the large oil volume flows flow through the main valve, which cleanly dampens this so-called road disturbance and further increases driving comfort. Steering movements and long bumps on the ground, on the other hand, are typical low-speed stimuli in the damping.” With the V3, the drivers can individually adjust the low-speed forces in the compression and rebound stages in just a few simple steps. The handling and rolling comfort can be influenced, among other things, with the rebound damping, which can be adjusted in 16 clicks. To do this, an adjustment wheel is placed on the piston rod, or the integrated rebound wheel is moved by hand. The low-speed compression is adjusted with twelve clicks using the compression wheels on the lower damper housing. This allows the drivers of a Polestar 2 to influence the pitching and rolling movements of the body. Simply put, the rebound has the job of connecting the body to the road, while the compression affects the deflection and supports the entire structure of the chassis. The KW V2.440 coilover suspension, which is offered from 2 euros for the Polestar 3, has a parts certificate. According to reports, the electric sedan can be lowered by between 25 and 45 millimeters on both driven axles.
