In Europe it has become almost a rarity to discover a vehicle whose trunk is measured in area instead of volume. Volkswagen presented the new VW Amarok, which is coming onto the market with a powerful 3-liter V6 engine and many practical features. The further developed model not only has all the properties of an off-roader, but also the advantages of a lifestyle vehicle. The interior has been largely redesigned and is intended to attract some customers from the popular SUV segment. We took a closer look at whether the purchase is really worthwhile and what's behind the new Amarok.

The advantages of the VW Amarok

The new Amarok will be available from dealers from October and should attract some interested parties with its powerful engine. The 3-liter V6 TDI engine of the flagship version Aventura has 224 horsepower (165 kW), which sets the pick-up far apart from the models of the competition. The “overboost” function is interesting for ordinary users and tuners: the power can be increased by 20 hp or 15 kW for a short time using a simple button. According to the manufacturer, the diesel engine should be lightweight and consume an average of 7,6 liters, which puts the vehicle almost on a par with the current model with its low 140 hp. In addition, the manufacturer relies on tried and tested BlueMotion technologies, which further limit the vehicle's pollutant and fuel consumption. After the launch of the Amarok Aventura and Highline models in autumn, Volkswagen will publish another engine option that has 163 hp (120 kW). The 204 PS (150 kW) version can already be configured now.

The performance of the VW Amarok

The additional horsepower reinforces the Amarok in its position as a steadfast work tool. Thanks to its numerous horsepower and up to 550 Newton meters, it masters almost any incline and still drives smoothly and elegantly on the road. The new Amarok will be available in two versions in the future: You can choose between a manual transmission that is state-of-the-art in the industry and a smooth 8-speed automatic. In both versions, the highest gears were designed to be long in order to constantly reduce fuel consumption and engine speed while driving. In the new Amarok, this has a particular effect on the driving noises, which penetrate only weakly into the interior of the vehicle. In addition, the technology causes low CO2 emissions in order to meet the EU-6 emissions standard.

The chic look and the high-quality interior make the pick-up a good alternative for convinced SUV drivers. The large Amarok offers a high seating position and therefore a good view of the street. To make it easier to climb the colossus, Volkswagen relies on doors that swing open as well as handles on the A and B pillars. Optimized ergoComfort seats covered with genuine nappa leather ensure a pleasant feeling for the handlebars and front passenger while driving. The seats can be individually adapted to the user and adjusted in height and depth. The interior has been coordinated - straight lines and clear structures prevail here. In the center console there is a sophisticated infotainment in the new VW Amarok that can be operated easily. It can be connected to the smartphone via an app and displays important functions of the premium pick-up. The integrated navigation system is connected to current traffic information services and thus always shows the fastest route. A highlight of the new Volkswagen Amarok is the electrical voice amplification, which facilitates communication while driving by amplifying the driver's voice through the loudspeakers. With a large pick-up, parking sometimes becomes a challenge, which is why Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles can install a reversing camera and a parking assistant in the vehicle on request.
