350 PS & Open Country Tires - APR tunes the VW Atlas

A Volkswagen that truly lives up to its reputation? For us definitely that VW Atlas! A huge box at a manageable price for "The people". Only with the little catch that it is not offered by VW in this country. We have to be content with the VW Touareg that has just been introduced, which will certainly meet any premium claim, but can hardly be paid for by the “people”. In America, the huge Atlas costs the equivalent of around € 25.000, depending on the dollar exchange rate, and thus even less than a small VW Tiguan here. The Atlas is 20 cm longer than the new Touareg, has a sliding second row, even a third row of seats and a trunk volume of over 2000 liters.

And with regard to the equipment, too, one hardly has to compromise considering the digital cockpit, touch screen and distance control. Why does not VW sell it here in Germany?? Because then the Touareg would definitely be superfluous! And Tuner APR shows us what you can do with the Atlas with a few modifications. The focus was on improving off-road skills and that was already successful at first glance. But first the 2.0 TSI engine (VW EA888) hit the collar. The 238 PS & 380 NM strong four-cylinder got the turbocharger from the Golf R (type IS38) and an in-house chip tuning.

In combination with a carbon-air-intake system, a sports exhaust system (Cast Race DP exhaust system), a High Flow Turbo Inlet Pipe and other small changes, the engine now spits out a proud 350 PS & 474 NM. This makes the APR Atlas stronger than the larger 3.6L V6 (VW VR6) and even surpasses the Teramont 530 V6 (VW EA390) of the 299 PS & 500 NM. And more power for the 2.0 TSI is even planned according to APR. So that the extra power can be braked consistently, the brake system has of course also been taken on. Here APR installed its 6-piston performance system with 350 mm slotted brake discs that can be easily recognized by the brand new aluminum rims with coarse off-road tires.

The rims are specially developed APR S01 forged wheels, which are all-round in 20 × 9 inch dimensions. Equipped is the wheelset with Toyo Open Country M / T tires in mighty 275 / 55 / 20. Using specially designed suspension components, APR raises the atlas by almost 4 cm, thus ensuring a tremendous performance. As eyecatcher you have even installed a LED lighting in the wheel arches but unfortunately not visible on the current pictures. To increase the show effect even further, the entire body is wrapped in a shrill metallic green and provided with lots of black accents.

In addition, the roof railing, the window frames or the bezel of the fog lights in black which is compared to the factory Chrompendants a clear optic gain. Currently it is a one-off piece but Tuner APR points out that they are working at full speed on various components for the Atlas. If we receive timely information on other changes not mentioned before, there is of course as always an update for this report.
