Hot Wheels has a vintage 1968 VW Beetle as the winner of the Legends Tour 2022 selected. The idea of converting a classic VW Beetle is not necessarily new, after all there are already dozens of Beetle replicas in the company's range, but this particular example particularly impressed the jury. Because the unique piece not only has a completely crazy widebody look with some exposed wheels, the old beetle is in addition of a Volvo engine fueled. And this combination particularly impressed the judges at the recent event in Atlanta (USA). Because the idea of the conversion is convincing as different, "than anything that has been seen before". And we clearly agree with this opinion.

The unique was built by Austin McNeil and his father and the Beetle is nicknamed "Hammerhead“. Incidentally, the complete conversion was built in the home garage in the small town of Cummings in the US state of Georgia and is based on a formerly rusty, dented vehicle. The beetle was left to weather somewhere in a field for a long time and wasn't even ready to drive, so it had to be pulled out of the field. As a rule, such vehicles are at best used as part donors. But not the father/son duo. she dismantled complete the Beetle, secured the parts that could still be saved and spent a long time discussing how to approach the project and what to do next. But one day it started and none of them components of the Beetle is still in its original condition. Almost every part has been extensively modified and the fenders, for example, have been completely removed and replaced by a specially made one bodykit replaced.

Chassis, braking system, interior: everything new!

Furthermore, you have that Rear partly cut off and soon there will be another big one rear wing give for the final rear view. And next to the fully repainted one Body there was also a new interior. And with sports seats, One Roll cage and several components that come from a Volvo, including the instrument cluster. And why? Because the tired four-cylinder boxer engine from VW flew out and through one Five-cylinder Volvo engine was replaced. This one got another massive one turbocharger set aside and now ensures proper propulsion. However, we are not aware of any specific key data. Of course they were too Suspension, the Bremsanlage and the wheelset adjusted accordingly. If we get more information about the changes, there is of course an update for this report.
