Video: 1983 VW Golf GTI built for $ 140.000!

This MK1 VW Golf GTI devoured an unbelievable $ 140.000 in conversion and restoration costs. Specifically, it is the “rabbit” variant that VW marketed the classic in the USA and Canada at the time. Derek Spratt is the "former" owner and, in addition to the equivalent of almost € 129.000, he also invested around 12.000 working hours. Every little change can be seen in the video and explained by him, which also applies to the complex increase in performance to 240 hp without a catalytic converter. And because Derek Spratt wanted to turn it into a Restomod project, modern conveniences such as electric seat adjustment, electric window lifters, digital instruments or even a start button could not be missing. The best thing to do is watch the video calmly and ignore the fact that the GTI was recently sold for a fraction of the cost.

About Thomas Wachsmuth

Thomas Wachsmuth - He has been an integral part of tuningblog.eu since 2013. His passion for cars is so intense that he invests every available penny in them. While he dreams of a BMW E31 850CSI and a Hennessey 6x6 Ford F-150, he currently drives a rather inconspicuous BMW 540i (G31/LCI). His collection of books, magazines and brochures on the subject of car tuning has now reached such proportions that he himself has become a walking reference work for the tuning scene.  More about Thomas
