Super fast - 440 PS VW Golf 2 CL 2.0 16V "Pinderwagen"!

Have you ever heard of the VW Golf 2 CL 2.0 16V "Pushchair" heard? It's a 30 year old VW Golf MK2 that is faster on the ring than a BMW M3 CS! That was rebuilt track tool in Great Britain and since then the Golf 2 has been a crazy ring monster with 440 hp. One that circles the Green Hell in just 7 minutes and 34 seconds. Anyone who is familiar with the times on the Nordschleife knows that these are lap times of an Audi RS Q8, an M3 CS or an AMG GT 63 S. But the builder of the “Nigel Pinder” pushchair from Great Britain has also trimmed the 30-year-old classic for this time. As the Briton announced, the lap time is the best time he has ever driven with the “Pinderwagen” on the Nürburgring. However, with traffic on the track, which prevented a faster lap time. In theory, there could be more in it.

2.0 16V four-cylinder from the VW Golf 3

But how does Pinder do that? A simple VW Golf 2 CL (without a sunroof) would not even be able to do this. For example, Pinder built a 2.0 16V four-cylinder from the 3 VW Golf 1990 and equipped it with a Garrett turbocharger from the British Touring Car Championship. With a basic boost pressure of just 0,6 bar, the engine achieves an impressive 290 hp. If the boost pressure is briefly raised to 1,6 bar using the extra boost on the steering wheel, a powerful 440 hp are available. Incidentally, Pinder can easily increase the boost pressure while driving and a maximum of 360 hp is permanently available. And the transmission is a surprise. It comes from VW and is a six-speed gearbox from a Golf 4 including a differential. The shift lever actually suggests a sequential gearbox. But the normal chassis had to be removed in order for the performance to get onto the asphalt. Pinder replaced it with an adjustable KW Clubsport coilover kit, which is specially designed for use on the racetrack. It lowers the Golf and increases grip and driving stability.

AP Racing Pro 5000 brake system

In addition, the wishbones on the Wolfsburg classic have been optimized and the braking system behind the gray motorsport rims is new. Pinder relies on an AP Racing Pro 5000 from British touring car racing with painted saddles. And unmistakably, Pinder has donated a huge amount of wing equipment to the body. There is a mighty splinter in the front, there is a new bonnet with air inlet, fender flares all around, fat side skirts, an air scoop on the roof, a fixed rear wing and a huge diffuser in the style of various DTM cars at the rear. In addition, of course, the cabin is rigorously designed for racing and the craziest quality for us is still that existing street legal. Conclusion: An MK2 that somehow still works even with a spoiler Sleeper is! If we get more information about the changes, there will of course be an update for this report.
