VW Beetle Hot Rod (Volksrod) with Porsche 914 engine!

Historically, Porsche and the manufacturer, which has meanwhile grown into a parent company, are Volkswagen linked for decades. Therefore, it is actually nothing spectacular when you hear of an alleged "new project" that unites the two providers under one shell. Combined with a good old American one Hot Rod but that's a very special mix. And the result is simply called "The Rod"! And as German as it sounds, it was not created in Germany. The basis was a run-down old VW Beetle, which, in addition to its spectacular appearance, also received a Porsche heart transplant. The vehicle was created in a collaboration between several tuners in the USA.

5 years and +1.000 working hours

Overall, the teams invested more than 5 hours of work in the project over a period of 1.000 years. But the efforts have paid off in any case, as we think. Because "Das Rod" has received countless other awards since the Grand National Roadster Show in 2015. The shell of the Beetle stands on a bright red painted chassis with Ford parts (Front axle, handlebars etc.), there were Camaro brake discs behind beautiful red ones Wire spoke wheels with a chrome-plated hubcap and, for example, small components from a Studebaker such as the hinges for the Suicide doors. In addition, C5 Corvette headlights are installed and the body has been set on an extended and raised wheelbase by the way. And under the long hood, there is now a new tuned 1,8-liter engine from a Porsche 914, which was coupled to a cool side-pipe sports exhaust system. The engine was developed by the Californian team from "Frank and Kit's garage“And delivers around 150 hp to the driven rear wheels using a four-speed manual transmission (by KCR Transmissions).

And as spectacular as the built-in technology is, so cautiously one tried it on the body. But that was only partially successful. “Das Rod” now has the classic look of the VW Beetle with free-standing wheels and a roof has been completely dispensed with. There are also no aprons at the front or back. All unnecessary add-on parts of the body were rounded off or removed directly for a look from the 1930s. And finally there are the new lines on the outside in the always open leather interior. The chopped cabin with a tiny windshield is only suitable for two people, because everything behind the seats is covered with a cover painted in the same color as the car. If we receive information on further changes to Das Rod in a timely manner, there will of course be an update for this report. You will be informed about this if you simply use our Feed subscribe to.
