With more than 18 million copies built, the Polo is one of the most successful compact models in the world. Volkswagen is now showing a new evolutionary stage of the Polo in a world premiere; advance sales will start in May. The design, the technologies and the equipment matrix of the bestseller received a far-reaching update. The update can be seen immediately on the redesigned front and rear. The standard equipment has been significantly expanded. In future always on board in every model: including LED headlights and LED taillights, the “Digital Cockpit” (digital instruments), an infotainment system and a multifunction steering wheel. For the first time, the Polo can also be driven partially automatically over the entire speed range via the optional "IQ.DRIVE Travel Assist". Other new features: interactive "IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights" and operation of the automatic air conditioning controlled via touch surfaces.

Technologies are used in the new Polo that were previously only available in higher vehicle classes. An example: the optional assistance system "IQ.DRIVE Travel Assist". As a novelty in the Polo class, the likewise new, predictive "ACC" (predictive automatic distance control) and the lane-keeping assistant "Lane Assist", which is now standard in every Polo, merge into a new system and thus enable partially automated driving. The fact is: Hardly any other car in this class has a similarly innovative range of assistance systems on board as the Polo. Another technological highlight are the new “IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights” on the Polo; the interactive lighting system was used for the first time in the luxury-class SUV Touareg.

"Polo", "Life", "Style" and "R-Line"

Volkswagen has redesigned the equipment lines. From now on, the configurator starts with the “Polo” version, and continues with “Life”, “Style” and “R-Line”. Even the basic “Polo” equipment has a significantly larger range of standard features on board. This plus includes LED headlights, LED taillights, a multifunction steering wheel and "Lane Assist". The center airbag is also new. It is located on the driver's side in the rear seat backrest; If the worst comes to the worst, the center airbag opens towards the center and protects the driver and front passenger.

In addition, Volkswagen has now also included the “Digital Cockpit” (digital instruments with an 8,0-inch display) in the basic equipment. Now also standard: the air conditioning, the “Composition Media” audio system with 6,5-inch monitor, a Bluetooth telephone interface, electrically adjustable and heated exterior mirrors and all-round electric windows. The “Life” equipment version follows in the next level. Additional features such as 15-inch instead of 14-inch wheels, "App-Connect", a center armrest including an additional USB-C interface in the center of the rear and leather on the steering wheel and gear knob are standard.

Like “Life”, the two new top equipment features - “Style” and “R-Line” - follow a nomenclature that was introduced with the current Golf. "Style" and "R-Line" have different priorities in their configuration, but are similar in terms of equipment level. The expanded equipment scope of the Polo Style includes the "IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights". Other exterior features include an individualized front section with crossbars in a chrome look, LED fog lights and 15-inch “Ronda” alloy wheels.

The extended range of functions also includes a parking aid. Inside are additional details such as the 10,25-inch “Digital Cockpit Pro” (including a picture of the caller, cover flow, map display and slideshow), ambient lighting and the 8-inch infotainment system “Ready2Discover” including “App-Connect Wireless” Board. “Ready2Discover” offers the option of retrofitting the navigation function as “Function on demand”.

With an individualized exterior, the new Polo R-Line underlines its sporty positioning at first glance. The bumpers differ from the counterparts of all other Polo versions in their distinctive "R" design. In the front of the bumper, the high-gloss black cross and longitudinal struts of the cooling openings and their surrounds create a charismatic dynamic. Here, too, the “IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights” and LED fog lights are already included as standard. In the lower area, the rear section is differentiated from the “Polo”, “Life” and “Style” equipment versions via a likewise high-gloss black diffuser with integrated exhaust gas trims in a chrome look. The Polo R-Line also comes with the 16-inch “Valencia” alloy wheels as standard. Like the Polo Style, the Polo R-Line is also equipped with the “Ready2Discover” infotainment system.
