The new VW Polo GTI is here: with exactly 207 PS & 320 NM!

In April, Volkswagen presented the new evolutionary stage of the sixth generation of the Polo. Now its sportiest variant follows: the new Polo GTI. The bearer of the legendary abbreviation marks the spearhead of the Polo segment in terms of performance, technology and sportiness. The high-torque TSI engine and the sports suspension specially tailored to the Polo GTI turn the compact bestseller into a dynamic sports car with four doors that also enables partially automated driving as an option for the first time in the Polo GTI. Numerous assistance systems of the latest generation guarantee even more comfort and safety for all passengers.

VW Polo GTI (MKVI)

In the automotive world there are three letters that have had an almost magical sound for almost five decades: GTI. Since the original GTI from 1976, thanks to Volkswagen, this abbreviation has stood for outstanding driving fun in the compact segment. The Polo has had the GTI abbreviation since 1998 - as the third model after the Golf and Scirocco. The latest generation continues the great GTI tradition and establishes new standards for the small compacts. The modular transverse matrix (MQB) from Volkswagen provides the technical basis for this. The MQB stands for technological progress across all model series, for high body strength as well as for an exemplary low vehicle weight and for very good crash properties.

Partially automated driving is made possible by IQ.DRIVE Travel Assist, which is being used for the first time in the Polo GTI. The system can steer, brake and accelerate the new Polo GTI from 0 km / h up to the Travel Assist control limit (210 km / h). The IQ.DRIVE Travel Assist uses familiar systems such as the ACC automatic distance control for longitudinal guidance, while the standard Lane Assist lane departure warning system supports lateral guidance. The driver can activate the system using the Travel Assist button in the redesigned leather-covered multifunction sports steering wheel. The hands must remain on the steering wheel during use. The driver always remains responsible for the vehicle.

The latest in connectivity in the new Polo GTI is ensured by numerous new infotainment systems (MIB3.1 of the latest generation) that are networked online with a wide range of services. An online connectivity unit (OCU) with integrated eSIM enables the use of the online services of We Connect (prepared for unlimited use) and We Connect Plus (prepared for free use in Europe for one or three years). Features such as natural voice control, access to streaming services and cloud-based personalization using “Volkswagen ID” expand the latest MIB3.1 system, depending on the equipment. The integration of apps via "App-Connect Wireless" for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is now also wireless. As in the Polo, the instruments and the infotainment system are arranged on a visual axis and can therefore be optimally seen and operated in all driving situations. In addition to its sheer size - the screen diagonal of 10,25 inches corresponds to 26 centimeters - the "Digital Cockpit Pro" impresses with its higher pixel density, better contrast ratio and more intense colors.

Sportiness paired with efficiency and moderate consumption

The heart of a GTI is always the engine. Like all its predecessors, the new Polo GTI is also front-wheel drive. The turbo-charged direct injection gasoline engine with 207 PS & 320 NM changes gears as standard via a 7-speed dual clutch transmission (DSG). The highlights of the turbo engine installed transversely at the front in the new Polo GTI include features such as a dual injection system with combined direct and intake manifold injection, an engine control unit with four core processors and electronic valve lift switching on the intake side. Despite the high output, the engine shines with efficiency and moderate consumption. The low curb weight of the new Polo GTI also contributes to this.

As befits a real GTI from Volkswagen, the new Polo GTI is also equipped as standard with a sports suspension specially tailored to the vehicle. It lowers the body by 15 millimeters and guarantees the typical GTI synthesis of high driving dynamics, safe neutrality and high driving comfort.

The new Polo GTI now has the new IQ.Light - LED matrix headlights and an illuminated radiator grille crossbar as a characteristic daytime running light supplement as standard. The new sporty Polo thus creates a stylistic bridge to the purely electrically powered ID. Models from Volkswagen and the new generation of successful models such as the Golf, Arteon and Tiguan, which are also optionally available or depending on the equipment, these striking LED light strips typical of new Volkswagen.

The most conspicuous visual change at the rear of the new Polo GTI are the newly designed LED taillights with animated brake lights and integrated dynamic turn signals that indicate the change of direction with a flowing light movement. The new GTI-specific bumpers make the compact sports car look even more confident and wider on the road. The Adaptive Frontlightning System (AFS) integrated in the side and controlled by the main headlights has been redesigned and now creates an even more striking lighting design effect. In conjunction with the IQ.Light - LED matrix headlights, it ensures very homogeneous illumination of the roadway and the surrounding area. The distinctive GTI insignia of the sharpened front remains the eye-catching red GTI logo in the radiator grille, the honeycomb ventilation grille and the surrounding red decorative strip above the LED daytime running light strip. Right and left it flows with red winglets into the IQ.Light - LED matrix headlights.

The new Polo GTI is available in five colors: Deep Black, Pearl Effect, Smoke Gray Metallic, Kings Red Metallic, Pure White Uni and Reef Blue Metallic. The last three body colors mentioned can optionally be combined with a contrasting black roof (Roof Pack). 17-inch alloy wheels are fitted as standard, and the Polo GTI can also be ordered with 18-inch alloy wheels as an option.

Inside, black, red, gray and chrome are the dominant colors. As is typical of the GTI, the roof pillars and the headliner are always kept in the trim color titanium black. Red contrasting stitching is also always one of the typical GTI features. They adorn the standard multifunction leather sports steering wheel, the gear lever trim and the outer seat surfaces. The optional beats sound system with 300 watts and six loudspeakers ensures fascinating acoustic experiences. The amplifier is housed below the variable load compartment floor to save space. The luggage compartment volume of the new Polo GTI is 351 liters.
