A camper for everyday use? The Westfalia project GP1 is here!

Do you need a new car? Or maybe something for your adventurous spirit, like a camper van? With the GP1 project, Westfalia packs both into one. The basis is the brand new Ford Transit Custom, which is said to be a twin brother of the VW transporter. So far, Westfalia is still playing with hidden cards and only shows a few pictures. However, they have already revealed some information about the new campervan concept. The GP1, built on the custom platform, comes with two sliding doors. That might not sound like the latest craze, but hey, it makes the camper extremely flexible: Thanks to the removable individual seats, you can drive the thing as a 4- to 6-seater or use it as a transporter. Thanks to the variable seating concept and the rails, you can use the Transit Custom as your everyday people mover or as a delivery van.

But then, bam! Thanks to the standard camping equipment, you can also spontaneously go on a weekend trip or longer with up to four people. The GP1 concept includes a pop-up roof with bellows that open to the front and retract automatically when folded. So you can easily operate it with one hand. Once the roof is open, you have a bed for two people up there that is 2,00 meters long and 1,27 meters wide, and a bed module behind the seats can also be converted into two more sleeping places on the ground floor. Here the lying surface measures 1,90 × 1,12 meters. A super modern cabinet module with additional functions is also installed between the C and D pillars of the GP1. In the multifunctional piece of furniture with the rounded corners there is a water supply with a sink and fresh and waste water tanks (25 litres/15 litres) in addition to a small kitchenette.

GP1: An all-rounder for everyday life and holidays

You even have a 25 liter compressor cool box that you can take out and use outside of the vehicle. Further back you can stuff your clothes or sports equipment in the closet. A toilet may be missing for self-sufficient life on the street, but hey, electricity is provided. The GP1 comes with two 95 Ah AGM batteries that you can charge via a 230 volt external connection. Several USB sockets satisfy the hunger for energy on the go. An air heater is also installed and there are also dimmable ambient lights, a touch display for the camping functions and blackout blinds for all windows in the living area. And as the icing on the cake: a camping table and two chairs are also part of the equipment.

Two versions: Premium and Basic

Future owners can choose between two equipment options. Both variants of the GP1 are based on the Transit Custom in the Titanium Line, i.e. the luxury version from Ford. The premium version comes with everything a camper's heart desires and the classic version is equipped with a little more restraint. The GP1 Premium has all-wheel drive, 170 hp and automatic transmission. There are also 19-inch alloy wheels, a 13-inch screen and a driver assistance package. You can choose between different shades of gray, blue metallic or artisan red. The GP1 Classic, on the other hand, is preconfigured and only available in white, just like the pop-up roof. You can only get the Classic with a manual gearbox. The price difference to the Premium is a whopping €13.835. With the concept, Westfalia would like to appeal to people who have not yet considered a typical motorhome. From singles to couples to families - the GP1 should inspire everyone who needs a vehicle for everyday use, but also for holidays.
