As is well known, there are many modified VW T1s. But for SEMA 2022 in Las Vegas, it has to be something very special. Kenny Pfitzer Designs (KPD) presented a widebody T1 with a flatbed and a T1 window bus, which caused all tuning fans to be amazed. We would like to introduce you to the yellow vehicle in particular and are pleased that it is next to our virtual VW T1 Bulli with W12 engine and widebody kit there are now two real vehicles that come close to our idea. But KPD was inspired by the Brazilian digital tuner Rob3rt Design and his Volkswide T1 and not from us.
Wide, wider, T1!
Kenny Pfitzer is a Southern California based designer and customizer and is (was) the owner of Zero to 60 designs. And now, for the 2022 edition of SEMA in Las Vegas, he has teamed up with his new company KPD (Kenny Pfitzer Designs) with clothing label FB County and The Original Cascade to bring the two widebody T1s to the wheel place. Let's stick to the yellow example. It is inspired by the collections of the labels. The wheel arches made of composite material are the highlight of the T1 platform and they ensure a powerful appearance. They are fat enough to fit 315 tires that have been mounted on 18-inchers. If you want to enter the cabin, you have to overcome a whopping 20 centimeters of tire tread before you sit in the driver's seat.
- the yellow VW T1 platform is from 1960
- the second copy is a 1961 window bus
– identical dimensions as the yellow brother - Body parts manufactured using 3D scanners and CNC machines
The harmonious design is underlined by wide side skirts and an extremely low spoiler at the front. At the rear, which has been slightly cleaned, you will find a discreet apron and on the platform there is easily space for two mountain bikes or surfboards. A specially manufactured air spring chassis, which was specifically designed for the KPD Bulli, ensures that the look is as low as possible. Incidentally, after the SEMA, the crazy T1 with a flatbed will go on a big USA tour and serve as a promotional vehicle for the streetwear brand FB County. Unfortunately, there are no plans for the components to go into series production, so the Bulli will probably remain unique.
Materials from FB County were used in the interior!
The one-off pickup truck's seats and dashboard were upholstered in FB County fabric. Thus, the cooperation between KPD and the fashion brand is clearly visible in the cockpit. By the way, the engine remained series! There were no changes to the Boxer engine of the Bullis. Only a Sidewinder stainless steel exhaust system was installed. So it should be rather leisurely through the country. And then there would be the second converted T1. This is painted in brown and, as a Bully window bus, is also extremely wide. In principle, it is converted in the same way as the T1 with a platform.
Our conclusion: A creative project put on wheels by Kenny Pfitzer and FB County. We have great respect for both companies. If we get more information, there is of course an update for this report.
