The idea of converting a Nissan GT-R into a convertible is not completely new. Some tuners have been doing this for a few years. For example the guys from Newport Convertible Engineering. They make pretty much every car a convertible and also the Nissan GT-R! As a convertible you can order it there in three different versions and the sensational driving characteristics with the 3,8 liter V6 under the hood are of course fully retained. the students of NATS took a completely different approach (Nihon Automobile College) from Japan. Here, too, they specialize in creating very special vehicles through crazy tuning. Due to various budget requirements on the part of the "training facility“But you often have to make various compromises.
Base: Z33 Fairlady Roadster
The best example is the project Toyota Supra widebodythat based on a Lexus SC430 Cabriolet arose. And also for the next project by name NATS R35 Roadstar the compromise was the base vehicle. You didn't cut a GT-R, but an old Z33 Fairlady Roadster (known as 350Z or 370Z) used for the conversion. The body was extensively disassembled and with original GT-R components (Headlights, taillights, fenders, trust tuning aprons etc.) converted to the look of the GT-R. There was also a powerful forged wheel set from the Japanese manufacturer Kuhl Racing (Format: 20 × 10,5 inches and 20 × 12,5 inches) and of course an Airride air suspension from Airrex could not be missing. With an incredible amount of effort and technical expertise, the box was somehow brought to life and once again impressively demonstrated what a student team from Nihon Automobile College is able to achieve.
Kuhl-racing gooseneck rear wing
Even the professional has to look twice to be able to see that it is no real Nissan GT-R. And especially the cool details like the gullwing doors, the chic carbon fiber all around and the spectacular trunk extension are absolutely gigantic. Obviously, "the base" only becomes when you look under the bonnet where the engine of the 350Z continues to do its job and also the somewhat outdated cabin, which has received a lot of changes, reveals the base vehicle apart from the GT-R. In no case should this reduce the performance of the students because we think both the idea and the implementation are extremely successful. If we receive information on further details in a timely manner, there is of course an update for this report. You will be informed of this if you simply use ours Feed subscribe to.
