Widebody Toyota Corolla (AE92) with 2JZ / RWD conversion!

In this country in particular, the Toyota Corolla E90 generation has almost completely disappeared from the streets. But the sixth generation of the Corolla, which was presented at the IAA in 1987, was extremely popular for years and was one of the best-selling Japanese vehicles and even became the world's best-selling car. In other words, the Corolla trumped the Ford T-Model (Tin Lizzie) and definitely the VW Beetle in the years that followed. In Germany, the E90 / E92 was behind the VW Golf, the Opel Kadett or the Ford Escort in terms of registration, but in terms of import cars it was one of the absolute front runners of the time. And that was also evident in the tuning scene, where the Corolla was an integral part. But none was as extremely modified as this one from Gothenburg in Sweden. Mathias Johansson's unique piece is Alen Haseta from Speed Hunters Magazine in front of the lens and we don't want to withhold from you the crazy Japanese. Johansson works at the Toyota Center in Gothenburg and has owned the AE92 Corolla GTi for many years.

with 2JZ power and 400 HP

He bought it from an old lady in 2004 and initially used it as a normal everyday car. But at some point the exchange of exhaust, chassis, brake system, rims, tires and seats started. A short time later, the GTi got a 4A-GE 20-valve blacktop engine with matching 6-speed gearbox from an AE111 series vehicle that was allowed to do its job for a long time. But there was a turning point in 2008. The Corolla was completely disassembled due to repairs and problems with rust, which led to the idea of building an AE92 GTi with rear-wheel drive instead of front-wheel drive. But the car should definitely continue to be approved for road traffic, which Johansson ultimately worked for in cooperation with the SFRO (Sveriges Fordonsbyggares Riks Organization) and was able to implement a lot of bureaucracy. Since then, the Corolla has been listed as a 2017 model with a new frame number and is therefore officially no longer a year 89. And that's a good thing, because after all, apart from the case, nothing is almost identical to a standard AE92 GTi.

Widebody body with tubular frame chassis

Since the conversion, there has been a tubular frame chassis under the widebody body and under the hood is a JZA80 Toyota Supra BiTurbo that has been pushed to a handsome 400 hp. Johansson built a total of 8 years and approx.6.500 hours on his GTi, whose ultimate goal was always the street legal was. And apart from the paintwork and some electronic components, he also did everything entirely on his own. The 2JZ-Corolla was built for small races on the racetrack, for various car shows but also for everyday use. And apparently the vehicle is far from finished because Johansson already has the plan to produce various shapes in order to be able to replicate all body parts made of glass fiber or carbon.
