The Wiesmann MF5 GT - the V10-M legend is still alive!

Since 2014, news from the sports car manufacturer Wiesmann with the gecko as a trademark has been rather rare. Wiesmann GmbH, founded in 1988 by the brothers Friedhelm and Martin Wiesmann in Dülmen, Westphalia, had to file for bankruptcy in 2014 and was taken over by British investors Roheen and Sahir Berry in 2016. The new owners announced a new model with an M5 engine (see at the end of the article), but that is still a long time coming. That is why Wiesmann fans still have to make do with around 1.500 vehicles from the years 1993 to 2013. The absolute star among the Wiesmann sports cars is that MF5 GT, which was presented for the first time at the IAA Frankfurt in 2007.

From V10 to V8!

A year and a half later, the car went into series production. Similar to its predecessor, the MF4, the MF5 also has a Aluminum chassisthat is reinforced with a glass fiber Plastic was coated. The smaller one MF3 however, has a tubular space frame. Today we are introducing the top model, the MF5 GT more precisely before.

As with other models, Friedhelm and Martin Wiesmann also rely on components from for the MF5 GT BMW. So they took over that 5 liter naturally aspirated V10 with 373 kW / 507 PS and 520 Newton meters of torque from the BMW models M5 and M6 of the E60 generation. In addition, the automated SMG III gearboxwhich ABS as well as some Driving assistance systems from the M6. Parts of the steering are borrowed from the 3-series E46 and E90. There was also 19 inch rims with tires measuring 265/35 ZR19 at the front and 325/20 ZR 19 at the rear

Since leaving the BMW series E60, E61, E63 and E64, the Bavarian car manufacturer has dispensed with the V10 engine, which is why Wiesmann has included the V5 biturbo engine used in the X8 M. 408 kW / PS 555 and 4,4 liters displacement as well as its 6-speed automatic changed.

First a coupe, then a roadster

The first vehicles of the MF5 series were there exclusively as a coupe. The MF5 GT differs from the previous model MF4 GT through wider fender, a changed one Front spoiler and a fixed one rear wing. The chassis numbers of the first 30 production vehicles were identical to those of the little brother. It was not until the 31st car that the MF5 GT had its own chassis number. The last car of the series with a V10 engine ran with the number 056 from the tape. Only 5 of the MF8 GT with V22 biturbo left the factory.

In September 2009 the Wiesmann brothers presented the roadster version of their top model at the IAA in Frankfurt am Main. This was the first time the retractable rear spoiler used that at higher speed more contact pressure generated. The roadster was on 55 pieces limited, since the end of the V10 engine was already in sight. However, in the end only 43 copies were built, as the production time was very long and there has been no EU approval for V2011 engines since 10. Then another 63 units with V8 engines rolled off the production line.

The MF5 GT at Silverstone Auctions!

It is a rarity that copies of the MF5 GT are auctioned at auctions, which is mainly due to the low production numbers. Now the MF5 GT with the chassis number W09G04201ADW59053 is going under the hammer at Silverstone Auctions during the Seven Concours in the Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh. The red sports car with black accents is one of the last to feature the V10 engine. It only has 8.000 kilometers on the clock, which shows that the previous owner rarely drove the car. Hopefully the new owner will show the chic car with the sporty black leather seats with red stitching more appreciation and bring it out of the garage more often. 1. Should a successor actually come with the engine from the current M5, then it should be an unrivaled vehicle. Who needs any electronic waste?
