Zelectric Motors 1966 VW Bus is raffled by Omaze!

Car enthusiasts with a distinct penchant for nostalgia will love this gorgeous Zelectric Motors VW Bully with electric drive from 1966 will probably be very enthusiastic. However, only the shell and, at first glance, the interior dates from 1966. The drive in particular is ultra-modern and contemporary. So if you are looking for something environmentally friendly with the charm of bygone days, you should take a closer look at the 66 bus. It is currently being raffled by Omaze whom we already know. Their last action was namely a restored 1973 International Scout II with GM-V8, which we also reported on. So now a VW bus converted to electric drive from Zelectric Motors. And this time the proceeds go directly to Reverb, an organization that works with musicians and artists to make their concerts “greener”.

full restoration & electric drive

Of course, the Microbus has been completely restored and therefore shines in the splendor of a new car. 32 kWh Tesla batteries are located under the sheet metal and feed the fully electric drive on the rear axle. The Bully is freshly painted in two-tone green and white and has a matching interior in brown and beige. And it still has full space for up to seven people. But the most important thing is of course the electric drive instead of the tired four-cylinder combustion engine. The Tesla batteries mentioned drive an electric motor that allows the bus to travel around 136 kilometers on one battery charge. And the “estimated” top speed of 161 km / h is even significantly higher than that of the original. However, this is unlikely to be the focus of such a vehicle.

Reversing camera and LED headlights

Incidentally, Omaze informs that the bus can be charged at normal sockets or public charging stations. In addition to the electric drive, the special features include a regenerative braking system, improved power steering, state-of-the-art LED headlights and taillights, an Alpine sound system with Bluetooth functionality, electric heating for the cabin and even a reversing camera is installed. In essence, all functions and properties have been retained, apart from the drive. Incidentally, the winner will receive another US $ 20.000 in cash on top, as in the last raffle. This should pay off the electricity bill for the next few years! If we get more information about the changes, there will of course be an update for this report.
