On YouTube Jay Leno has once again presented a very special vehicle. And an (almost) classic "oldtimer". Almost - there the classic electrified became. The vehicle comes from Zelectric Motor, a California-based company that is turning old Porsches and Volkswagens into electric vehicles. And this time you converted a restored Porsche 912 from 1968. Since then, it no longer has the standard four-cylinder petrol engine under the hood, but rather a powerful one from now on Tesla electric motor (as far as known from a model S P85). But continue to be only the rear wheels driven. And in case anyone wonders if Tesla Motors has recently Crate engines sold, NO, definitely not! Zelectric gets the motors from dismantled Teslas. And in the vehicle from the video, the drive from a Model S is installed as the rear engine.

The electric motor is fired by one 32-kWh batterysitting under the front hood. But of course the 912 is not just an old 912 with an electric drive. The team at Zelectric modified that too Suspension, You have the Bremsanlage revised and ensure optimal weight distribution.

All of these changes were also necessary as the 912 is now something heavier but also clearly more powerful is. Because he has been weighing since the renovation 1.134 kgwhich means he's got 136 kg heavier. The additional weight compared to the production model is responsible for the large ones Battery and the electric motor. For comparison: a 912 engine weighs around 170 kilograms and the built-in battery and electric motor weighs 272. However, the additional weight of the conversion is more than compensated for.

2,6 seconds at highway speed

Because while the 4-cylinder boxer engine only generates 90 hp, the electric motor counteracts with approx. 550 little horse. Instead of 13,5 seconds to 100 km / h it is now crazy 2,6 seconds at highway speed. To do this, the 912 should have a top speed of over 200 km / h. However, the range is limited to only 120 to 140 miles (193 to 225 km). That is well below a Tesla production vehicle. However, who regularly drives longer stages in a classic car? And Zelectric states that the 912 can also be upgraded back to the combustion engine at any time. Maybe this is the future for classic cars? If we get more information about the changes, there will of course be an update for this report. You will be informed of this if you simply take ours Feed subscribe to.
