Since the beginning of the year increases the used car price curve incessantly. As in the current one AutoScout24 used car price index (AGPI) can be seen, the numbers continued to rise in September. For used cars you get compared to August this year about 500 euros more. Cars that have been driven five to ten years old, and especially compact class automobiles, have gone up in price. Compared to the previous year, you can see how it has developed: it was an average of 23.728 euros in September 2021, that is about 3.500 euros morethan ever used car in September 2020. This means that the prices for used cars have set a new record.
Especially the compact class of automobiles and used cars 5 to 10 years old are increasing!

Vehicle segments: surcharge for medium and compact class!
Currently, the average prices for used cars are just below the 24.000 euro mark arrived after they exceeded the 23.000 euro threshold for the first time last September. Most of all, you can see the rising prices for compact and mid-range automobiles. The middle class cars increase by 2,5% to 23.804 euros and the compact vehicles take part 3% a little more and come to an average of 18.562 euros. Compared to the previous month, SUVs and off-road vehicles (31.447 euros on average) and sports cars (61.069 euros on average) have also increased about 2%. Only the upper class vehicles sinken slightly by approx. 0,5% to 57.035 euros. The AGPI mentions that in all other automotive areas the numbers are also going up.
Age segments: 5 to 10 year old vehicles are becoming more expensive!
If you look at the older vehicles, you can see a significant price development there too. Consumers have to spend significantly more on older used cars (5 to 10 years old) because there was one there in September too price increase: Mid-range vehicles increased to 16.223 euros and thus by about 6%.
Supply and demand: Things are not looking rosy for the small car market!
In the used car market, the offers of small and mid-range cars are breaking with -9 percent strongest one. The supply tends to decline when prices rise. SUVs / off-road vehicles, or the upper and middle class are with one Minus 7% much less to be found. Exclusively sports cars and vintage cars are an exception, because they are sold on offer 1% higher .
Drive types: high prices for electric vehicles and hybrid cars!
It is no secret that hybrid vehicles have by far the most expensive drive technology installed. On average, a hybrid costs around 36.839 euros in September and used electric vehicles are only a short distance behind, with a price of around 35.734 euros. The somewhat smarter variant would be the diesel vehicles, which are still the cheapest on average despite an increase from 650 euros to 25.816 euros. If you want it to be particularly cheap, get a used one CNG (16.367 euros) or a LPG vehicle (13.343 euros). Not quite as inexpensive, but still good, are also petrol engines bought in September with an average of 21.299 euros.
