Info: BMW Group issues licenses to CUBE and SoFlow!

Emission-free urban mobility, intelligently rethought for more sustainability in urban traffic: the BMW Group is setting new impulses here with two innovative micromobility concepts. These concepts are implemented in cooperation with the partner companies CUBE and SoFlow. The official communication of the BMW Group's licensing to the two partners will take place as part of the International Motor Show (IAA) Mobility 2021, which will take place in Munich from September 7th to 12th. As a compact, three-wheeled cargo bike concept, the CUBE Concept Dynamic Cargo inspired by BMW combines high agility with flexible usage options and increased year-round suitability. Furthermore, it offers a variably usable loading area with innovative attachments for the transport of loads and / or children as well as for leisure activities.

The SoFlow Concept CLEVER COMMUTE inspired by BMW is characterized by ergonomics suitable for everyday use and high driving stability with the smallest possible pack size. It opens up new opportunities in the mobility mix: Problem-free integration of public transport sections on longer routes thanks to the innovative public transport mode. Ideal for Park & Ride: Minimal pack size for practical transport in the trunk. As a premium provider of individual mobility, the BMW Group is actively helping to shape the liveable inner city of the future. The company also thinks about mobility beyond its own core business. In the past, the BMW Group has therefore presented innovative micromobility concepts several times.

The CUBE Concept Dynamic Cargo inspired by BMW:
Driving pleasure, versatility and safety are ideally combined.

With the CUBE Concept Dynamic Cargo inspired by BMW, a cargo bike concept with dynamic characteristics has been created. The base of the three-wheeled vehicle is the front main frame, which tilts when cornering and which is connected to the rear of the vehicle via a pivot axis. This remains stable in every curve without any inclination on the road. Combined with an electrified drivetrain controlled only by the driver's pedaling impulse, the vehicle driven by the two rear wheels drives like a normal bicycle. The rigidly mounted, non-swiveling wheels on the rear axle allow - in addition to significantly increased driving stability in all weather conditions compared to two-wheel concepts - above all a flexible, pick-up-like transport platform. This can be modularly equipped with innovative attachments to take along for luggage and / or children. Many other use cases are possible thanks to the modular principle. Another advantage of the non-pivoting transport platform concept is the fact that the driver hardly notices the possible additional weight and all loads can therefore be transported safely and stably.

Andreas Foti, Managing Director CUBE: “The mobility of the future is one of the central challenges of our time. One of the few solutions that have already become established is the e-bike. We want to actively help shape and implement new mobility solutions. Inspired by the idea from BMW, we have put all of our know-how into the development of this cargo bike ready for series production. We have created an ultra-compact, manoeuvrable and safe bike that can be used by everyone and is fun. The electrical support enables versatile use even beyond urban space, while the compact design is easy and safe to maneuver. And thanks to the flexible transport options, almost anything can be transported. "

The SoFlow Concept CLEVER COMMUTE inspired by BMW: Flexible e-scooter for multimodal mobility.

With the SoFlow Concept CLEVER COMMUTE inspired by BMW, the BMW Group is introducing an e-scooter concept that can be conveniently folded for taking with you in public transport and / or in a car and yet can still be moved safely, relaxed and stable. In the so-called public transport mode, the running board is folded up to the side and the rear wheel is swiveled through the opening that has been created from below using a rotary axis. This mechanism significantly shortens the wheelbase so that the e-scooter can even be carried on an escalator without any problems. An important prerequisite if a trip with the subway is integrated on the route.

Furthermore, it can also be moved in this state - like a hand luggage trolley - rolling on both wheels. In this mode, the SoFlow Concept CLEVER COMMUTE inspired by BMW can give an electric boost with the wheel hub motor integrated in the front wheel, so that it can be pushed over ramps more easily. Thanks to its compact dimensions, the vehicle should be able to be carried free of charge in any public transport in this condition. When fully folded, the SoFlow Concept CLEVER COMMUTE inspired by BMW has a pack size that easily fits into small trunk or even several times into larger trunk for a family outing. For vehicles from the BMW Group, this means, for example, that the SoFlow Concept CLEVER COMMUTE inspired by BMW fits lengthways into the trunk from the 3rd row upwards and across the MINI trunk without having to fold the rear seat.

The unique product properties make the SoFlow Concept CLEVER COMMUTE inspired by BMW a versatile companion in the city, with which every route can be completed quickly, safely and relaxed. Its versatility makes it possible to travel really multimodally.

Manuel Hug, co-founder and CEO of SoFlow AG: “The renewed collaboration with the BMW Group is an outstanding chapter in the SoFlow success story, after we have already received the license to use the BMW 'Personal Mover' concept. Now we can contribute our competence in the field of micro-e-mobility vehicles for the latest development, the SoFlow Concept CLEVER COMMUTE inspired by BMW. We look forward to bringing this innovative concept to the streets as soon as possible. "

Jochen Karg, Head of Vehicle Concepts in the New Technologies and China Division of the BMW Group: “As a premium provider of individual mobility, the BMW Group is actively helping to shape the liveable inner city of the future. In view of the steady increase in the concentration of traffic in inner cities, small vehicle concepts can make a significant contribution to improving and networking inner-city mobility. As a company, we therefore consciously think of mobility beyond our own core business. In the past, the BMW Group has already presented innovative micromobility concepts to the public: For example the BMW Motorrad X2City, the Personal Mover Concept or the BMW Vision E³ Way elevated road concept. With the Concept Dynamic Cargo and the Concept CLEVER COMMUTE, our engineers are once again proving the possible transfer of expertise from the automotive sector to small vehicle concepts. In the case of vehicles / concepts outside of our core business, the possibility of implementing them by granting licenses to partners from the respective industry has proven to be highly efficient and attractive for both sides. Therefore we are very happy about the contracts with CUBE and SoFlow. "
