As the company that built the world's first Electrically Power Assisted Cycle (EPAC) almost 30 years ago, Yamaha Motor is considered one of the world's most innovative providers of eBike technology. The market for eBikes is developing at a rapid pace. Millions of customers worldwide appreciate the many possibilities and the carefree pleasure that this easy-to-drive and emission-free means of transport has to offer. After the eBike business was still a niche market not so long ago, remarkable growth soon set in. In the meantime, eBikes have arrived in the mass market. Numerous new and well-known brands are building high-quality next-generation models that weigh less but still have more power.

PW-X3: Yamaha's smallest, lightest and most powerful drive unit

Yamaha's all-new PW-X3 has been specially developed for the next generation of European eMTBs. The drive unit is the smallest, lightest and most powerful electric drive from the Japanese manufacturer to date. The higher performance of the ultra-compact PW-X3 is noticeable with the first turn of the crank. The immediate development of performance creates a closer connection between man and machine. Yamaha calls this feeling "Pure Ride".

85 Nm torque from the first turn of the crank

  • The torque of the PW-X85, increased to 3 Newton meters, provides the necessary pulling power to master steep climbs and sandy or muddy terrain with the e-mountain bike. As soon as pressure is applied to the pedal, the motor assistance kicks in. The powerful and uninterrupted flow of force creates the feeling that the bike is part of the body.

Yamaha's lightest drive unit

  • Yamaha eBike drive units of the PW series have always been among the lightest drives. With a weight of just 2,75 kilograms, the PW-X3 is another 10 percent lighter than the previous model - and leaves the competition behind with a fabulous power-to-weight ratio.

Most compact drive unit

  • The PW-X3 is not only Yamaha's lightest and most powerful drive unit, but also 20 percent smaller than the PW-X2. The more compact design opens up completely new possibilities for bicycle designers because they can plan with ideal frame geometry and suspension kinematics.

Best Q factor

  • The PW-X3 also has an ISIS bottom bracket with a 128 mm axle, which offers the best Q-factor on the market. This width has characterized the PW-X series from the start and is considered ideal by many cycling enthusiasts.

Yamaha Interface X

New minimalist LED communication unit: Interface X is a minimalist, easy-to-use new LED communication unit that perfectly complements the PW-X3. Because the unit is mounted on the stem, the cockpit and the entire handlebars are tidier. The scope of delivery also includes a practical switch unit with ergonomic buttons. In order to quickly and easily select the right speed level with these, you no longer need to take your eyes off the route. In addition, a color-coded speed step indicator and a charge level indicator are integrated on the display, which provide quick and clear information.

Yamaha cooperates with SIGMA, Garmin and Echowell

To give customers who want to customize their eMTBs the widest possible choice, Yamaha works with leading cycle computer manufacturers. The Interface X supports ANT + ™ radio technology and is compatible with cycle computers from other manufacturers such as SIGMA, Garmin and Echowell.

SIGMA

  • As companies that shape the bicycle market with innovative ideas - Yamaha built the first eBike and SIGMA built the first digital bicycle computer with the Cyclecoach - Yamaha and SIGMA SPORT share the same pioneering spirit. With this in mind, the collaboration between the two top brands was only logical when it came to ensuring an outstanding user experience with compatibility between the Yamaha Interface X and the SIGMA EOX VIEW 1300.

Garmin

  • Garmin is considered the world's leading manufacturer of innovative GPS systems. The company's ANT + wireless technology enables interoperability between different surveillance devices. Garmin's Edge® 530, Edge 830, Edge 1030, Edge 1030 Plus and Edge Explore bike computers are compatible with Interface X and support three profiles that provide extensive information.

echowell

  • Echowell is a Taiwan-based manufacturer that sells millions of cycle computers worldwide each year. With the LEV100, Echowell builds an eBike computer that is compatible with Interface X and provides a lot of information.

Yamaha Battery External Crossover 400

Easily removable battery: Yamaha is expanding its "External Crossover" battery range with the new and lighter External Crossover 400 and offers several advantages when the eBike is used in the city, for commuting or as a rental bike. Because the battery is attached outside, it can be removed quickly and easily with the help of a key. This is extremely helpful when there is no power socket in the garage or in the bicycle parking area. The 2,8 kg battery is held by the handle and can be easily carried to the next charging point. Connected there, the lithium-ion power storage with a capacity of 410 watt hours is fully charged after 3½ hours.

Unrestricted support for European eBike manufacturers

The introduction of the new PW-X3 drive unit is further proof that Yamaha is fully behind the European eMTB manufacturers who are working on the lighter and more powerful next generation of models. As the inventor of the original eBike concept, Yamaha can draw on a wealth of experience. The new drive unit, together with the Interface X and the External Crossover 400, confirms that Yamaha is fully committed to OEM partners and new customers who need high-quality eBike systems.
