The project is not the latest, it is from 2017, but we would like to show it to you. 2017 saw a perfect end for the ESSENZA team from Kawasaki: At the legendary Glemseck 101, pilot Francesca Gasperi took a celebrated fourth place on the SUPERSYS. There was also a third place in the jury rating for the most beautiful bike in the competition. As in the previous year, Kawasaki had to compensate for a significant displacement deficit compared to the competition. Instead of the 1200 cm3 allowed in the ESSENZA series, only 650 cm3 were available. After all, the SUPERSYS was based on a normal Versys 650.

Tuner Dieter Briese from Motorrad Höly in Schriesheim did what the automotive industry does to inflate small-volume engines: he installed a turbocharger. Compared to the first race at the Cafe Racer Festival in Montlhéry, he had now installed four injection nozzles instead of two in order to be able to further increase the boost pressure of the turbine. A stronger clutch and new instruments were installed for this purpose. Pilot Francesca Gasperi was looking forward to the Glemseck event anyway because she wanted to show that her second place last year was no coincidence.
won against a Triumph and Ducati
And although this year the starting position seemed even more hopeless, because all opponents had upgraded heavily since the last event, Francesca was able to celebrate more than one respectable success with her SUPERSYS. In the first race she beat a refined Triumph Thruxton R and in race 2 a converted Ducati GT Classic. Only in the semifinals did she just have to admit defeat to a laughing gas-doped Moto Guzzi with 1200 cm3. And in the small final it was even closer to a tuned Moto Guzzi V11. Nevertheless, the spectators and the team were thrilled with fourth place, which was celebrated like a victory.
The icing on the cake then followed at the ESSENZA award ceremony on the same evening. The expert jury awarded the concept and design an award. Third place in this rating is a nice confirmation for Ronny Schnepf, who designed the SUPERSYS for Kawasaki contract partner Höly.
