2023 HONDA FORZA 125

Honda developed the Forza 125 as a GT scooter for customers with premium demands in Europe. The market launch took place in 2015. Right from the start, the combination of Gran Tourismo flair, advanced technology and unmistakable design proved to be a hit and helped to gain popularity in the eighth liter segment. Continuous model updates helped to stabilize the successes, and customer feedback was constantly incorporated. By August 2022, more than 89.000 units of the Forza 125 had already been in customer hands.

There are many reasons for its popularity: lively, economical and reliable eSP+ engine ('Enhanced Smart Power'), compact dimensions, agile handling and safe driving characteristics support pleasurable locomotion in city traffic. Sitting and riding comfort as well as wind protection make commuting over longer stretches easier. Lots of storage space, elegant design, useful equipment features, stylish looks and proven Honda quality harmoniously round off the overall package.

This includes further development and constant improvements. For 125, the Forza 2018 received a new design and useful upgrades, such as an electrically adjustable windshield and LED lighting technology all around. Further optimizations will follow in 2021, after a USB charging socket has replaced the conventional charging socket and the adjustability of the windshield has been increased by a further 40 mm. In 2023, a design facelift will again elegantly upgrade the Forza 125, and an exclusive Special Edition variant will consolidate its position as a GT scooter in the premium segment.

2. Model overview

A new front fascia for 2023 makes the Forza 125 sleeker and more refined, with bodywork elements carried over from the top-of-the-line Forza 750. The stylish double LED headlights significantly enhance the glamorous appearance. The cockpit display, which has also been revised, combines analog displays for the speedometer and rev counter and upgrades them with additional digital information.

In addition to the facelifted look, convincing practicality is also offered. The electric windshield can be adjusted over a 180 mm range, allowing you to choose between an unobstructed view or the best wind protection. The smart key operation increases the ease of use in everyday use. A USB Type-C charging socket allows convenient charging on the go, and the ample storage space under the seat allows you to stow two full-face helmets.

The stable chassis of the Forza 125 is technically unchanged, as is the liquid-cooled 125 cm³ SOHC engine with four-valve technology, which thanks to the HSTC traction control (Honda Selectable Torque Control) maintains the grip on the rear tire under all circumstances and thus against loss of grip and excessive slip preserved. The 2023 vintage Forza 125 is available in the following colorways:

  • Matt Cynos Gray Metallic
  • Pearl Falcon Grey
  • Matte Pearl Pacific Blue
  • Matt Carnelian Red Metallic
  • This is joined by a new variant for 2023, the Forza 125 Special Edition.

The Forza 125 in the exclusive Special Edition variant shines in Matt Cynos Gray Metallic in combination with red rims, seat seams, cockpit surrounds, logos and other details are executed in red. Also included are black anodized passenger footrests and footwell applications made of stainless steel.

3.1 Styling & equipment

  • Elegant appearance with facelifted front fairing and new headlight, based on the style of the Forza 750.
  • Revamped cockpit gauges.
  • Electric windshield with 180 mm adjustment range.
  • Storage space for two full-face helmets under the seat, plus a USB-C charging socket.
  • Smart key system controls ignition switch, seat lock, fuel tank lock and (optional) 45 liter top case.
  • Indicators with emergency brake signal function.
  • In addition, a new Special Edition variant with an exclusive paint finish.

The Forza 125's sleek front fairing has been redesigned for aesthetics and aerodynamic efficiency, with a new look inspired by that of the Forza 750. The design language conveys sportiness and high-quality charisma. The sleek LED headlights form part of the unmistakable Forza face, with clean and simple design lines that emphasize the premium appeal.

The handlebar width is still 750 mm, the mirror height is 1.125 mm. The comparatively slim dimensions are ideal for heavy traffic in big cities. The seat height is 780 mm. The Forza 125 offers plenty of space and freedom of movement for two people, while at the same time the driver enjoys the best wind and weather protection. LEDs are used for the lighting technology all around (indicators, headlights, rear light).

The electric windshield can be adjusted in height over a 180 mm range. The windshield is modeled to provide weather protection, direct airflow over the crew's heads and reduce wind noise. In a higher position, comfort and wind protection are more pronounced, which is pleasantly noted on longer stages. In a low position, the overview is better, which is advantageous in heavy city traffic. The windscreen is specially rear-ventilated in order to support the cleanest possible inflow and throughflow and to prevent the formation of vortices.

If necessary, two full-face helmets can be stowed under the seat. The storage space can be subdivided using an integrated partition, for example to accommodate a helmet and/or rain protection or a bag. The lockable glove compartment in the bodywork in front of the driver offers space for utensils such as a cell phone or water bottle. A USB-C charging socket is also integrated here.

The smart key technology of the Forza 125 not only controls the main switch for the ignition and the locking of the seat, but also the optional 45 liter smart top case. With the smart key in the pocket, the additional luggage chute is unlocked and automatically locked again when the driver moves away. Alternatively, the top case can be locked with the smart key element. The control of the locking mechanism is cleverly placed outside so that the storage space is not compromised.

The cockpit display in the revised design has analog instruments (speedometer and tachometer) and a digital display panel. This can be switched between three display modes: 1) odometer, remaining range and current consumption, 2) trip odometer, average consumption and timer and 3) outside temperature and battery display.

3.2 Engine

  • 125cm3 Displacement, power 15 hp (10,7 kW), 12,3 Nm torque.
  • Engine with advanced eSP+ technology plus automatic start/stop.
  • 2,3 liters consumption per 100 km enables a range of almost 500 km.
  • Safety-enhancing HSTC traction control.

The liquid-cooled SOHC four-valve engine of the Forza 125 with eSP+ technology (enhanced Smart Power+) delivers 15 hp (10,7 kW) at 8.750 rpm and a maximum torque of 12,3 Nm at 6.500 rpm. Bore and stroke are 53,5 x 55,5 mm, compression is 11,5:1. The Forza 125 impresses with powerful acceleration and strong torque between 40 and 60 km/h - exactly the range that is needed most in city traffic. The 200 meter mark is reached after 13,3 seconds when accelerating. The maximum speed is 108 km/h; Cruising along longer stretches at 90 km/h is effortless and almost a piece of cake.

Honda's friction-reducing eSP technology can be found in a number of details. PGM-FI fuel injection, fed by a 4,7 liter airbox and a 26mm diameter intake throttle body, optimizes combustion efficiency. The space-saving arrangement of components such as the oil pump (which is integrated into the crankcase) helps to increase efficiency. An offset cylinder arrangement reduces friction between the piston and the cylinder surface so that the combustion power is transferred to the crankshaft with maximum efficiency. The cylinder liner is not smooth on the outside, but has special surface enlargements, which contributes to optimized cooling, reduces tension on the piston rings and helps to reduce friction losses.

The cooler, placed on the outside right of the crankcase, uses a particularly small and light fan, which also contributes to minimizing friction. The rolling resistance of the space-saving gearbox is reduced through the use of three main bearings. The belt pulleys of the centrifugal clutch in turn reduce the pressure on the drive belt, which also reduces friction and thus transmission losses. The electronically controlled, brushless ACG starter unit functions as both a starter and an alternator. Since the starter is attached directly to the crankshaft, the starting process is unusually smooth. The otherwise usual noises when the electric starter engages via gears are eliminated.

The automatic start/stop automatically stops the engine after three seconds of idling when the scooter is stationary and the brake is applied. A quick turn of the throttle is enough to start the engine again. The automatic start/stop switches off automatically if the battery charge is too low. In this way, excessive discharge can be avoided. The battery (YTZ8V) is a maintenance-free power source. One of the development goals for the Honda Forza 125 was that commuters and owners with average usage behavior should only drive to the gas station once a week. Thanks to the low fuel consumption of 2,3 liters per 100 km and the 11,7 liter tank, a range of almost 500 km is possible.

The HSTC traction control (Honda Selectable Torque Control) prevents the rear wheel from losing grip when accelerating, especially on slippery road surfaces; and also if you accelerate too quickly on a dry road. A T symbol appears in the cockpit when the system has taken corrective action. This safety feature can also be deactivated if the driver so desires.

3.3 landing gear

  • Steel frame, 33 mm telescopic fork and stereo shock absorbers with adjustable spring preload.
  • Only 164 kg weight, agile and user-friendly.
  • Cast aluminum wheels, front and rear disc brakes, ABS

The structural rigidity and strength of the tubular steel frame is designed to master all conceivable road conditions. Two shock absorbers cushion the rear section with the one-piece aluminum swing arm, and a 33 mm telescopic fork with spring preload that can be adjusted in 5 stages.

The Forza 125's weight of just 164 kg makes it easy and safe to handle (especially at walking speed in busy city traffic) and easy to park. The wheelbase of 1.505 mm conveys driving stability. The chassis geometry with a 26,5° steering head angle and 89 mm trail supports agile handling.
