A comfortable and well-protected seating position, sufficient storage space under the seat for a full-face helmet and the best workmanship are qualities that also impress demanding owners and fully correspond to the name of the PCX. PC stands for Personal Comfort and X-Level for maximum quality. Honda reliability and moderate running costs also contribute to customer satisfaction.

In 2010, the PCX was the first scooter in Europe with a modern, environmentally friendly start-stop system. Two years later, the PCX was the first scooter in Europe to be fitted with Honda's particularly efficient Smart Power (eSP) motor. Euro 2016 compliance followed in 4 and in 2018 a design update, a new chassis and increased engine performance further upgraded the PCX. The PCX has always been a contemporary scooter. In the 2021 model year, it took another big step forward with a new engine, redesigned frame, more comfort and everyday practicality and the evolution of its progressive style. So the PCX should continue to hold an important place in the hearts of European two-wheelers. For model year 2023, two new color variants complement the pleasing look of the PCX125.

2. Model overview

The PCX125 has a unique presence, with a sophisticated yet bold and distinctive design. Its individual charisma is emphasized by the LED lighting. It also offers ample storage space under the seat, leg room and a USB-C charging port in the storage compartment. A "widescreen" instrument display shows all important information and the Honda SMART key system controls the ignition and seat opening. The eSP+ (enhanced Smart Power Plus) four-stroke single-cylinder engine delivers 12,5 hp (9,2 kW) and 11,8 Nm of torque as well as a fuel-efficient consumption of 2,1 l / 100 km (WMTC mode). The driver also benefits from the automatic start-stop system and Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC traction control). A robust, lightweight chassis, a 31 mm telescopic fork at the front and rear shock absorbers ensure driving comfort.

The 125 model year PCX2023 will be available in the following color variants:

  • Pearl Jupiter Gray – **NEW**
  • Matt Suit Blue Metallic – **NEW**
  • Matt Galaxy Black Metallic

3.1 Features & Styling

  • Bodywork in a futuristic look
  • LED headlights with characteristic daytime running lights
  • 30,4 liters of storage space under the seat; USB-C charging port in the storage compartment
  • SMART key system for ignition and seat opening

The design of the PCX has always been full of character, with smooth bodywork and harmonious lines. The large-format surfaces painted in the base color appear more intense because they run from front to back without any visual interruption. All lines are subtle and create a dramatic effect. The front panel is flared at the top while elegantly gathering at the waist. A darkened pane provides wind protection. So for the 2021 model year, the PCX became bolder and more distinctive, with more emphasis on a futuristic style that has always characterized this scooter.

Full premium LED lighting further sets the PCX125 apart from the crowd. The headlight has a characteristic daytime running light with 5 light lines arranged in parallel. The X-shaped rear light creates an intensive 3D effect with multi-optic technology. The seat is contoured for increased rider and passenger comfort and easy ground access. The seat height is 764 mm and is easy to control with a spread of 540 mm. The design also brings with it ample storage space under the seat. With 30,4 liters of storage space, you can easily fit a full-face helmet and more. A USB-C charging port in the storage compartment is available for direct connection of a smartphone. The fuel cap cover provides space to store the fuel cap while refueling.

In addition to the ignition and locking of the seat and storage compartment, the SMART Key System also controls the optional 35-litre SMART Box. With the SMART Key in the pocket, the SMART Box locks automatically when the driver moves away from the vehicle. However, it can also be locked manually by pressing a button on the key. A central instrument console in widescreen format presents all important information in a beautifully presented and easy-to-read format. An inverted LCD display shows the speed as well as other information (odometer, trip meter, average consumption, fuel gauge). There is also a display for the start-stop system. The wide, chromed handlebars are also a hallmark of the PCX. It ensures excellent handling in city traffic and at the same time provides a retro touch. The rear grab bar provides a comfortable and supportive hold for the passenger.

3.2 Engine

  • Liquid-cooled eSP+ four-stroke SOHC engine
  • Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC)
  • Start / stop system

The PCX125's liquid-cooled SOHC four-stroke single-cylinder engine with eSP+ (enhanced Smart Power Plus) technology delivers 12,5 hp (9,2 kW) at 8.750 rpm and peak torque of 11,8 Nm at 6.500 rpm. Bore and stroke are 53,5mm x 55,5mm and the compression ratio is 11,5:1. Acceleration from standstill or while rolling is smooth and smooth, the PCX glides comfortably up to 90 km/h, top speed is 98 km/h. Extremely fuel-efficient, with 2,1 l / 100 km (WMTC) and equipped with an 8,1 liter tank, the possible range between two refueling stops is 385 km.

Another feature for the PCX boosts rider confidence in the wet. The Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) works in the background and regulates the traction of the rear wheel. If the traction control intervenes while driving, this is also indicated to the driver by a yellow warning lamp in the cockpit. The HSTC can also be deactivated by the driver. Honda's eSP+ technologies help minimize friction in the engine. The clever, space-saving arrangement of the individual components, such as the oil pump, which is integrated into the crankcase, increases efficiency. The compact combustion chamber with PGM-FI fuel injection, with a 28 mm diameter intake port, ensures optimized combustion speed and cooling performance.

Offset cylinders and a modern design of the eSP+ motor reduce internal friction. The outside of the cylinder liner is not smooth, but spiky. Thanks to a large surface, the heat dissipation to the coolant is optimal. This reduces internal friction and wear over the long term, as well as possible oil consumption during the combustion process, which improves service life. For piston cooling, an oil jet like that used on the CRF450R sprays oil directly onto the piston crown, which can advance ignition timing and improve combustion performance. The introduction of a hydraulic chain tensioner reduces internal friction and vibration. This contributes to a smooth, comfortable ride.

A highly efficient cooler - integrated into the outside of the right crankcase - works with a small, lightweight fan, which reduces friction losses and reduces drag. Rolling resistance within the transmission unit is reduced through the use of three low-friction main bearings, which are precisely designed for the loads that each must carry. An optimized clutch - and pulleys - complement the power increase. The alternator, which sits on the crankshaft and is electronically controlled, also serves as an electric starter. This is possible because the rotor (which is designed to be wear-free, brushless) is double-wound. This offers unusual smoothness during starting, because the usual noise when the electric starter engages via gears is eliminated.

The PCX125's automatic start-stop system switches off the engine temporarily after three seconds of idling. After that, a quick turn of the throttle is enough to activate it again without using the electric starter. An automatic decompression mechanism contributes to the best take-off behavior. An electronic controller monitors the state of charge and, as a precaution, deactivates the automatic start-stop system if the current level of the battery is in the lower range due to excessive stress and permanent charging by the alternator makes sense.

3.3 chassis

  • Steel frame for durability and agile handling
  • Twin rear shock absorbers are characterized by large spring diameter and long stroke and improve comfort
  • Stylish wheels complement the design

The new PCX 125 features a redesigned duplex steel beam frame that provides the durability needed for the demands of urban traffic without sacrificing the urban maneuverability that the PCX has always been known for. Suitability for everyday use, user-friendliness and a relaxed driving position are also retained. The wheelbase is 1.315 mm and the steering head angle is 26° 30' with 80 mm trail. The weight ready to drive with a full tank is 130 kg. Both wheels have a stylish design and complement the bodywork. The rear wheel measures 13 inches. The tire dimensions are 110/70-14 at the front and 130/70-13 at the rear.

The 31mm front fork has 89mm travel. The rear shock absorbers have a travel of 95 mm. They use heavy springs for a comfortable ride on rough city streets. The braking power is transmitted by two-piston brake calipers and a 220 mm single disc brake at the front and a 130 mm drum brake at the rear. One-channel ABS supports the front brake.

4. Honda Genuine Accessories

A range of Honda Genuine Accessories is available for the PCX125. The most important accessories have been combined in a practical package for convenience. The City package is intended to offer more practicality and comfort without sacrificing style - the accessories are colour-coordinated with the scooter. The package includes:
