With the C 400 X in 2017 and the C 400 GT in 2018, BMW Motorrad presented two premium vehicles for the mid-size scooter segment for the first time. As an offer in the area of ​​urban mobility, the C 400 X has since impressed with its decidedly dynamic properties, while the C 400 GT as a Gran Turismo variant suitable for touring impresses with its increased comfort. To ensure that it stays that way in the future, BMW Motorrad has now refined the two mid-size scooters and, in addition to some essential technical optimizations, also given them new colors and styles.

Powerful single-cylinder drive according to EU-5 homologation with e-gas, new engine management and optimized centrifugal clutch.

The proven, efficiency-optimized single-cylinder engine with an output of 25 kW (34 hp) at 7 rpm continues to serve as the drive-1 and a torque of 35 Nm at 5 min-1. The power is transmitted via a continuously variable CVT transmission and a torsionally rigid drive unit swing arm with innovative swing arm mounting for the lowest possible level of vibration and thus the best possible comfort. Thanks to the current EU-5 homologation, the new C 400 X and C 400 GT remain the ideal partners for dynamic, carefree scooter fun.

For this purpose, the engine was equipped with a so-called "electronic throttle" (e-gas) and an electrically operated throttle valve as well as a new engine management system. Further optimizations can be found in the form of a changed matrix and coating of the catalytic converter, a broadband lambda probe, modifications to the cylinder head, a new sensor on the generator cover, an adapted wiring harness and a modified idle control. The idle speed control in the airbox is no longer necessary and the idle speed control now takes place via a bypass valve of the throttle valve and a turbulence system.

In addition to fulfilling the EU-5 homologation, the revised drive impresses above all with an even smoother and more sensitive throttle response and increased idling stability. In addition to e-gas and the new engine management system, the optimized springs for the centrifugal clutch also help to increase the stability of the engine. The tolerance of the spring force has been restricted, the spring force slightly increased and the engine speed slightly increased when the clutch is engaged. As a result of the reduced tolerances, the speed variance when the clutch is disengaged is smaller and the clutch is no longer opened too late - as is occasionally known from the predecessor.

Automatic Stability Control (ASC) with automatic radius calibration and increased control quality. Full top speed homologation now also for China.

In the course of the technical revision, the new C 400 X and C 400 GT also received an optimized ASC. Instead of the previous manual recalibration - for example when changing tires - the new system now has an automatic radius calibration. In addition, the new ASC is designed for significantly lower coefficients of friction than before. When driving, this is noticeable in the more sensitive response behavior and significantly increased control comfort - especially on wet and slippery surfaces. It is no longer necessary to deactivate the ASC.

So far, the two vehicles have been homologated for the Chinese market at 129 km / h. The legal requirements in China have changed and so it has now become possible to homologate the full top speed of 139 km / h as in the other markets.

The braking system of the new C 400 X and C 400 GT has also been revised. Thanks to new brake calipers, the double-disc brake system at the front now offers a more stable and more clearly defined pressure point as well as improved roll-back behavior of the brake pistons. This is accompanied by adjusted lever travel for the rear brake on the left and the front brake on the right for a symmetrical braking feel.

The optimized lighting of the storage compartment (volume 31 l, with Flexcase 45 l) under the bench seat represents a significant gain in comfort. The lighting is now no longer from the side, but from above for even better illumination. In addition to the 12 volt on-board socket, the storage compartment on the front right is now equipped with a USB charging socket.

Two new attractive colors as well as the style variants “Sport” (C 400 X) and “Triple Black” (C 400 GT).

As before, the new BMW C 400 X and C 400 GT also feature the unmistakable design language of BMW Motorrad. It is always modern, future-oriented and fits seamlessly into the BMW Motorrad design philosophy. The new mid-size scooters from BMW Motorrad are each offered in three different color variants.
