Successor to the R NineT - the new BMW R 12 NineT!

In recent years, BMW has established itself as a reliable manufacturer of stylish retro motorcycles. The BMW R 18, which has been a big hit for the past three years, is a strong competitor for Harley-Davidson. The BMW R NineT was already the eye-catcher in 2013, a beautiful roadster that marked the 90th anniversary of BMW Motorrad and inspired with its almost iconic air/oil-cooled boxer engine. The first press release now praises the new model, referring to the historic milestones of BMW motorcycles. This is understandable, since there is a lot to tell in this section. With its customizing concept, the BMW R NineT was the first to bring the BMW Heritage series to life.

it should build on tradition

A light unit integrated into the rear should make it easier for the owner to convert to a short rear. It was to be expected that BMW would not radically change such a successful product. It is therefore not surprising that the R 12 NineT continues to be a puristic, classic roadster with a 1200cc two-cylinder boxer. However, BMW plans to reduce the new model even more to the essentials and thereby make it more emotional. The main focus is on the lines of the tank, seat and rear, which are intended to be reminiscent of both the traditional /5 and the BMW R 90 S from the 1970s. The tank is said to have been designed as a typical BMW boxer tank with an edge on the underside and a classic knee closure.

Extensive personalization options available

BMW Motorrad attaches great importance to details, which is evident in the newly designed mount of the front wheel fender, in the LED main headlight with a light-guiding element with a black border and in the two retro-style round instruments. However, what should be even more interesting for potential customers is the fact that the new model can also be customized with BMW accessories as desired.

For example, there will be an LED light unit integrated into the rear seat, which should make it easier to convert to the shortest possible rear end. The list of special features of the new BMW R 12 NineT ranges from a one-piece tubular space frame with a bolted-on rear frame to monoblock brake calipers and steel braided brake lines. Further details, such as prices, have not yet been determined. BMW plans to release more information in the second half of 2023.

Thomas Wachsmuth - He has been an integral part of tuningblog.eu since 2013. His passion for cars is so intense that he invests every available penny in them. While he dreams of a BMW E31 850CSI and a Hennessey 6x6 Ford F-150, he currently drives a rather inconspicuous BMW 540i (G31/LCI). His collection of books, magazines and brochures on the subject of car tuning has now reached such proportions that he himself has become a walking reference work for the tuning scene.  More about Thomas
