Exploration, driving pleasure and performance as well as a great desire to pack up and just go. The identity of DesertX leaves no doubt: it is the first modern Ducati with a 21" front wheel and has been designed to master even the most demanding off-road sections. The 2023 model, available in the new “RR22” finish in addition to the Matt Star Silk colourway, is the first Ducati to be combined with the new Turn-by-Turn navigation system. The integrated navigation system is based on the Ducati Multimedia System, which is used by the Ducati Link App displays calculated route guidance via the motorcycle's TFT instruments. In this way, the navigation functions can be used without the need for an external device.
Turn-by-turn navigation
The system is an official Ducati Performance accessory and can be purchased from the Ducati It can be purchased from dealers together with the motorcycle or afterwards, so that it can also be used by those who already own a DesertX. The system uses the Bluetooth connection between the smartphone (iOS or Android), the motorcycle and the headphones in the rider's and passenger's helmets. Via the Ducati Multimedia System (accessory to be purchased separately), notifications of phone calls, incoming messages/emails and the music player are displayed in the cockpit.
Use of the turn-by-turn navigation system requires the latest version of the Ducati Link app and user license activation. After that, all you have to do is enter one or more destinations so that the app can calculate the route according to your preferences (fastest, most efficient, avoiding toll roads, etc.). And you can start navigating.
the display of the smartphone may not appear
The phone can then be placed in your pocket, tank bag or on the Ducati Performance mount without the need to keep the display on. Navigation is carried out using maps that can be downloaded in advance to reduce data consumption or avoid difficulties in areas with poor reception. However, if the phone remains online, one can benefit from real-time traffic reports.
The navigation instructions are displayed on the screen, leaving space for driving-related information so that safety is not compromised. Also in the interests of safety, the system indicates the next turn along with an indication of the upcoming turn, allowing the driver to prepare in advance for the maneuvers to be performed later. Thanks to the map data, it is also possible to display the speed limits on the route to be driven.
Functionality is constantly being developed
The system allows to select the indications to be received (visual or visual and auditory if a connection to the driver's headset is active) and to record the route together with all data on speed, lean angles and photos taken during the journey, so that the experience can be relived or shared with friends. The system, whose functionality will be continuously developed in future versions, is also compatible with the Diavel V4. Map coverage is already extensive and will gradually expand to include China, South Korea, and Japan over the coming months. For more information on how to activate and use the system, see a dedicated video tutorial on Ducati.com.
