Model 2022: the new Ducati Multistrada V2 and V2 S!

The Ducati Multistrada family continues its development with the presentation of the Multistrada V2: it is the ideal motorcycle to enjoy every route, versatile in everyday life and in the city, always with the sportiness and unmistakable style of a Ducati. With the Multistrada V2 project, the company from Borgo Panigale has further developed the two-cylinder of the Ducati family and created a motorcycle for all needs that is intuitive, comfortable and accessible without neglecting driving pleasure. The new Multistrada V2 is a technologically advanced motorcycle with an extremely extensive electronics package. The motorcycle represents the perfect entry into Ducati's touring segment, also thanks to the introduction of a 35 kW version for the A2 driving license class.

In the development phases of this motorcycle, ergonomics, weight reduction, engine development and a number of detail improvements were in the foreground, following the philosophy of "continuous improvement". The design of the Multistrada V2 is elegant and sporty at the same time and follows the style and recognition value of other two-cylinder bikes from Borgo Panigale. A style that is characterized by flowing lines, clear shapes and the characteristic and unmistakable balance between the charismatic front and the slim and light rear section. The Multistrada V2 also features new, refined graphics that showcase the bike's name on both sides.

937 cc Testastretta 11 ° engine

The new Multistrada V2 is equipped with the latest evolution of the 937 cc Testastretta 11 ° engine. The desmodromic controlled engine has four valves per cylinder, is water-cooled, has an output of 113 hp and a maximum torque * of 94 Nm. This two-cylinder delivers its power very linearly and easily dosed. In the lower speed range it responds very gently. The engine has powerful torque that can always be called up, which, if necessary, can release the sporty and adrenaline-charged character typical of Ducati. The well-engineered and robust engine is characterized by long maintenance intervals with an oil change every 15.000 km and a check of the valve clearance every 30.000 km. The further development of the Testastretta 11 ° in the new Multistrada V2 shows important improvements: new connecting rods, a new 8-plate hydraulic clutch and a revised gearbox that guarantees smoother and more precise gear changes and also makes it easier to put into neutral. The advances in the use of the automatic gearshift, the functionality of which has been further improved, are even clearer.

Model 2022: the new Ducati Multistrada V2 and V2 S!

The chassis of the motorcycle is agile and gives a familiar feeling. The 19-inch front wheel ensures smooth and comfortable handling, always with the right level of responsiveness and precision. The motorcycle is extremely versatile and, thanks to the effectiveness of the Ducati Skyhook Suspension EVO semi-active suspension system (standard in the S version), it is also ideal for use in the city. The chassis swallows uneven surfaces and bumps without any major problems. The perfect coordination of the chassis is always guaranteed, which improves safety and comfort.

Important development work has been done on the ergonomics of the motorcycle to make it even more comfortable and intuitive, so that every rider feels comfortable in every situation. The seat height has been lowered to 830 mm and the shape of the bench has been redesigned. The seat is now narrower and more compact between the driver's legs, so that, thanks to an inner arch of just 1.790 mm, your feet can easily touch the ground. These changes ensure more safety when stationary and more confidence when maneuvering at low speeds, even with a pillion passenger and a full suitcase. A low seat and a lowering kit are also available in the Ducati Performance catalog. In combination, these accessories enable a seat height of 790 mm.

When working on the bench, value was also placed on greater driving comfort: the new shape of the bench offers a flat surface that guarantees the driver freedom of movement in the longitudinal direction. This made it possible to improve comfort. In addition, it is now easier for every driver to find the optimal seating position. The new footrest system, which was adopted from the Multistrada V4, also ensures a more comfortable seating position. Thanks to the 10 mm greater distance to the seat bench, it also offers taller drivers enough space, prevents the legs from bending too much and thus enables a more comfortable sitting posture on long journeys. Another important area of improvement is the weight reduction of the motorcycle, which through the work on many elements has resulted in a weight reduction of 5 kg compared to the Multistrada 950.

The development on the engine has resulted in a saving of around 2 kg, including the clutch (1,5 kg) and its cover, the gear drum and the connecting rods. In addition, some parts of the vehicle have become lighter, including the mirrors derived from the Multistrada V4, the front brake discs and the rims: The new Multistrada V2 is equipped with rims that are derived from the Multistrada V4 and are around 1,7 kg lighter, which leads to a significant improvement in driving behavior. Spoked wheels, which have also become significantly lighter, are also available in the Ducati Performance catalog. The Multistrada V2 is equipped with a state-of-the-art electronics package as standard, which offers everything you need for a comfortable and safe journey. The package includes cornering ABS, which guarantees a high level of safety when braking, even when cornering. The starting aid makes it easier to drive off on slopes. Other features include Ducati Traction Control, the four fully user-configurable riding modes (Sport, Touring, Urban, Enduro) and the new Ducati Brake Light System, which automatically activates the flashing of the rear light when the brakes are suddenly applied to signal the traffic behind that the driver decelerated severely.

Design

The Multistrada V2 is characterized by an elegant and sporty design, which follows the style and recognition value of the Ducati Multistrada family, which was recently enriched with the Multistrada V4. The clear shapes, the flowing lines and the difference in size between the front and rear wheels are the most characteristic features of the motorcycle. The mirrors, the light alloy wheels and the brake discs with an inner ring made of aluminum have been adopted from the Multistrada V4, which enables a weight saving of 2,9 kg. Further design features are the new engine covers and the redesigned rear section. These parts have been redesigned by the Bologna-based manufacturer to improve ergonomics and comfort. The arrangement of the brake and clutch reservoirs has been revised and separated from the hand protectors to make the motorcycle more robust.

Model 2022: the new Ducati Multistrada V2 and V2 S!

Compared to the previous version, the Multistrada V2 also has a new, refined graphic that bears the name of the motorcycle on both sides. The color palette consists of the classic "Ducati Red" color with black rims, which is available for both the Multistrada V2 and the Multistrada V2 S. The range of colors is complemented by the new “Street Gray” paintwork with a black frame and “GP Red” rims, which can only be ordered for the S version.

Motor

The engine of the Multistrada V2 is the well-known and popular 937 cc Ducati Testastretta 11 ° two-cylinder with desmodromic valve control. This water-cooled engine with four valves per cylinder has an output of 113 hp and in the Euro 5 configuration * has a maximum torque of 94 Nm. It is characterized by its high reliability and the ability to combine performance and adrenaline with a steady and always controllable power delivery, whereby the driver has a sporty, never aggressive motorcycle. The sophisticated and robust engine has maintenance intervals with an oil change every 15.000 km and a valve clearance check every 30.000 km. The further development of the Testastretta 11 ° in the new Multistrada V2 shows important improvements: new connecting rods, a new 8-plate hydraulic clutch and a revised gearbox that guarantees smoother and more precise gear changes and also makes it easier to put into neutral.

Model 2022: the new Ducati Multistrada V2 and V2 S!

The advances in the use of the automatic gearshift, the functionality of which has been further improved, are even clearer. The interventions on the gearbox and the clutch, together with the introduction of new connecting rods and new engine covers, also led to a reduction in the overall weight of the engine by around 2 kg. For the first time in the history of the Multistrada family, Ducati is also introducing the Multistrada V2, a 35 kW version for the A2 driving license class. With this decision, Ducati is pursuing the clear goal of making the world of the multistrada from Borgo Panigale even more accessible, especially for younger motorcyclists.

Ergonomics

The ergonomics of the motorcycle have been redesigned the most compared to the Multistrada 950. Some key elements have been redesigned to make the motorcycle even more drivable and to improve the high level of comfort in all areas of use (touring, commuting and city). The shape of the seat was changed to allow the driver better freedom of movement in the longitudinal axis. It is now narrower and more comfortable. Together with the seat height reduced by 10 mm (830 mm) and the inner leg arch reduced by 40 mm (1.790 mm), this makes it easier to put your feet on when standing and enables safe maneuvering even when fully loaded. The seat height can be reduced to 790 mm by installing the low seat in combination with the lowering kit. The new footrest system adopted from the Multistrada V4 ensures a more comfortable sitting position.

Model 2022: the new Ducati Multistrada V2 and V2 S!

Thanks to the 10 mm greater distance to the seat bench, it also offers taller drivers sufficient space, prevents excessive bending of the legs and thus enables a more comfortable sitting position on long journeys. The motorcycle is spacious and can easily accommodate two people even with the topcase and side cases mounted. So you can enjoy the thrill of traveling every day, rediscover the familiar streets or venture into unknown realms, following the philosophy of experiencing an "extraordinary journey".

Suspension

The concept chosen for the chassis of the Multistrada V2 consists of a front tubular space frame and two cast side frames, which are connected by a rear load-bearing element made of fiberglass-reinforced technopolymer for maximum torsional rigidity. A double-sided swing arm made of cast aluminum connects the rear wheel with the frame. The chassis of the motorcycle enables agile and intuitive driving behavior, always with the right level of responsiveness and precision. The motorcycle is extremely versatile and, thanks to the effectiveness of the Ducati Skyhook Suspension EVO semi-active suspension system (standard in the S version), it is also ideal for use in the city. A SACHS spring fork with a diameter of 48 mm is used at the front in this configuration.

Model 2022: the new Ducati Multistrada V2 and V2 S!

A SACHS shock absorber does its job in the rear. The two spring elements are electronically connected and can be continuously adjusted in rebound and compression according to a semi-active control concept. The chassis swallows uneven surfaces and bumps without any major problems. The perfect coordination of the chassis is always guaranteed, which improves safety and comfort. The aluminum alloy wheels are the same as those of the Multistrada V4 with the dimensions 3,0 ″ x 19 ″ at the front and 4,5 ″ x 17 ″ at the rear. The weight could be reduced by 1,7 kg, which provides more agility compared to the Multistrada 950. The new Multistrada V2 with Pirelli Scorpion Trail II, 120/70 ZR19 at the front and 170/60 ZR17 at the rear has tires. The work to reduce the weight of the motorcycle made it possible to achieve a dry weight of 199 kg (202 kg for the S version).

That is 5 kg less than the Multistrada 950. The engine has lost about 2 kg. Among the vehicle components, the new rims stand out, as do the Multistrada V4 mirrors (- 0,7 kg) and the front brake discs, which now have an inner ring made of aluminum (- 0,5 kg). For the rims, new spoke rims are also available as accessories, which are also significantly lighter. As for the suspension, the Multistrada V2 is equipped with a KYB front fork with a diameter of 48 mm and 170 mm of travel. The spring preload and the damping in the rebound and compression stages can be adjusted. A SACHS strut is installed at the rear, which connects the swing arm to the left part of the cast subframe and can also be remotely adjusted in the spring preload as well as in the rebound and compression stages. The spring is progressive, which increases driving comfort even when the vehicle is fully loaded. The rear wheel travel is 170 mm.

Model 2022: the new Ducati Multistrada V2 and V2 S!

The entire Multistrada V2 family is equipped with Brembo brakes and a cornering ABS function. The front braking system consists of Brembo M4-32 monoblock radial calipers with four pistons of 32 mm diameter and two pads, a radial brake pump with adjustable levers and two 320 mm brake discs with aluminum inner rings. At the rear, a floating Brembo brake caliper retards a single disc with a diameter of 265 mm.

Electronics

With the Multistrada V2, safety, comfort and performance are guaranteed by the most modern electronic assistance systems. In the S version, the journey becomes a 5-star experience thanks to a complete package that is unparalleled in this segment. In 2010, the Multistrada was the first motorcycle in the world to feature Riding Modes. The different driving profiles make it possible to choose between different preset modes in order to adapt the vehicle behavior to the driving style and the ambient conditions. The Multistrada V2 has four riding modes (Sport, Touring, Urban, Enduro). The Bosch Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) controls the function of the cornering ABS in all four driving profiles and changes the character of the motorcycle depending on the rider's preferences.

The Ducati Traction Control (DTC) of the Multistrada V2 can be adjusted in eight stages, while there are three stages for the cornering ABS. In level 1, the system only acts on the front wheel and not when cornering. The Vehicle Hold Control (VHC) start-up aid supports the driver when starting up on inclines. It is activated when the driver applies high pressure on the front brake lever or the rear brake pedal with the motorcycle stationary and the side stand retracted and is able to keep the vehicle stationary by actively engaging the rear brake. This function switches off automatically after 30 seconds if it is not used. The Multistrada V2 has an aggressively designed headlight. This is typical for the motorcycles of the Multistrada family.

An LED taillight is installed at the rear, which is equipped with the Ducati Brake Light System (which was already developed for the Multistrada V4): in the event of heavy braking, this system automatically activates the flashing of the taillight in order to abruptly slow down the following vehicles to signal and thus contribute to the general safety of the motorcycle. A full LED headlight is installed in the S version. This has the Ducati Cornering Lights (DCL) function. This optimizes the illumination of the road when cornering depending on the lean angle of the motorcycle.

Model 2022: the new Ducati Multistrada V2 and V2 S!

With the Multistrada V2, the indicators can be deactivated automatically depending on the lean angle. Thanks to the use of the Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), the indicators go out after the end of the curve or after longer cornering. The cockpit of the Multistrada V2 consists of a large, clearly visible LCD display. The S version, on the other hand, has a high-resolution 5-inch TFT color display with an intuitive user interface that allows easy navigation through the menu. Both versions are compatible with the Ducati Multimedia System.
