Flagship of the Neo Sports Café range: 2023 Honda CB1000R!

The flagship of Honda's Neo Sports Café series delights naked bike enthusiasts with its sleek silhouette and elegant design. The four-cylinder impresses with its smooth running and sporty punch, the chassis with upside-down fork, single-sided swingarm and radially mounted four-piston brake calipers. The TFT display with integrated Honda smartphone voice control system allows full connectivity, and a USB charging socket provides practical services. Parallel to the standard edition, the CB1000R is also available as a Black Edition, additionally equipped with a windshield, passenger seat cover, quick shifter and a completely blacked-out outfit that harmonises perfectly with the shiny aluminum surface details.

2023 Honda CB1000R

Honda donated a modified Bordeaux Red Metallic to the CB1000R for the 2023 vintage. The Black Edition is not only available in Black, but also in the new Mat Jeans Blue Metallic. Both are now adorned with a subtle silver decorative stripe on the tank. Customer expectations of new motorcycles - how they perform, look and feel - have changed a lot in the last decade. That's why Honda applies unique engineering, technology and creativity to develop motorcycles that conquer new segments and markets.

Against this background, the CB1000R presents itself as a particularly exquisite motorcycle. With the appearance in 2018, the Honda developers have reinterpreted the design of the predecessor and implemented it in line with an updated sense of the times. The result is a machine that encapsulates the Neo Sports Café concept; a sporty, compact naked bike with elements of a timeless café racer. The CB1000R stands out because it doesn't follow the usual supersport-derived naked bike formula. It is an innovative composition of radical power paired with breathtaking aesthetics on two wheels. The CB1000R combines formal minimalism with a maximum of expressiveness, crosses a lot of usable engine power with the precision of a super athlete and the outfit of a naked bike.

Piloting the CB1000R is a sensory experience. On winding roads, it effortlessly follows seemingly sportier machines. No matter how you approach it - aesthetics, emotion, performance, technology - the CB1000R is a motorcycle that consistently inspires excitement on all levels. Technically, the CB1000R is unchanged from the 2023 model year. Visually, however, the standard edition is upgraded with a modified Bordeaux Red Metallic. In the future, the exclusive Black Edition variant will not only be available in Black, but also in the new Mat Jeans Blue Metallic. The aluminum rear frame is now blackened (instead of silver) on all of them.

Model overview

Visually, the 2023 CB1000R is already enchanting when it is stationary. All details fit harmoniously into the overall picture. The visual appearance in the Neo Sports Café design is truly impressive and flatters the pride of ownership. Already in 2021, the engine received a revised setup of the PGMFI injection system and thus a smoother power delivery, while the chassis remained unchanged. The engine meets the Euro5 emissions standard. A full color TFT display with integrated Honda Smartphone Voice Control system allows full connectivity. The USB charging socket under the seat proves to be useful in practice. The CB1000R of the model year 2023 shines with a modified paint color, even if the designation remained the same: Bordeaux Red Metallic **NEW**

The Black Edition

The CB1000R inspires as an eye-catcher, the Black Edition goes one step further. Thanks to additional, lovingly styled equipment details, the Black Edition shines in an extremely desirable way with a handcrafted custom look. Apart from gleaming aluminum highlights such as wheel spokes, side plates, engine covers and handlebar clamps, everything on the machine is completely blacked out: headlight bezel, windshield, fork tubes, radiator bezels, airbox covers, exhaust manifold and muffler. On the 2023 vintage, a silver decorative stripe on the painted tank subtly underscores the brilliantly polished or milled aluminum parts. The passenger cover is also painted to match. A quickshifter is standard on the Black Edition. A milled CB logo gives the machine the finishing touch. The CB1000R Black Edition is available in two color variants for 2023: Deep Graphite Black / Mat Jeans Blue Metallic **NEW**

Styling & equipment

  • Dynamic look with a slim silhouette and handsomely styled cast aluminum rims
  • 5 inch TFT color display, integrated Honda smartphone voice control system
  • USB charging socket under the seat
  • Two new color options

Honda's Neo Sports Cafe? design language processes historically valuable times and prolongs them into the future, revealing interesting scope for interpreting sweeping aesthetics. The harmonious lines follow a clear design concept. The headlight sits in a teardrop-shaped bezel close to the fork; the compact aluminum radiator covers are inclined in the direction of travel. This design continues with the airbox covers and up to the tail design. The aluminum subframe is black on the 2023 model, and the discreetly designed license plate holder is also pleasing. The elegant, breathtaking look of the CB1000R arouses desires even when it is stationary. The equipment is also impressive.

The cockpit has a 5 inch (approx. 13 cm) TFT color display. The driver can choose between four different ways of displaying speed and rpm, as well as other options for fuel, consumption, driving mode and engine settings, and a shift-up display. Control is via the left switch panel on the handlebars. Also integrated into the cockpit is the Honda Smartphone Voice Control system, which allows voice-controlled use of telephony, emails, music and navigation via a smartphone connection. A headset is required for use; the smartphone must also be connected to the vehicle via Bluetooth. It is also controlled using the buttons on the left switch unit. A USB socket for smartphone charging is located under the seat.

The rear turn signals on the CB1000R have an ESS (Emergency Stop Signal) function. In the event of emergency braking, these flash as hazard warning lights to warn other road users of an abrupt stop. The indicators are also self-resetting. This function is not controlled by a simple timer, but uses the on-board electronics to measure the wheel revolutions on the front and rear wheels when turning and when changing lanes. The detection of the driving dynamics and the situation allows a meaningfully adapted and therefore practical resetting of the turn signal function, which contributes to increased driving safety.

Motor

  • CBR1000RR Fireblade derived XNUMX-cylinder with Throttle By Wire
  • PGM-FI injection for perfect response
  • Slipper clutch

The CB1000R's 145-cylinder DOHC engine offers a sporty blend of power and torque: 107 hp (10.500 kW) at 104 rpm and 8.250 Nm of torque at 75 rpm. Bore and stroke are 56,5mm x 11,6mm. The compression ratio is rated at 1:11.500. The red rev zone starts at 12.000 rpm and the rev limiter kicks in at 5 rpm. The optimized set-up of the PGM-FI fuel injection helps to achieve optimal power output, precise response and at the same time comply with the EuroXNUMX standard.

The engine is perfectly tuned and delivers its maximum torque over a wide usable speed range. Accompanied by smooth four-cylinder refinement, there is always an abundance of performance that allows for an exciting driving experience. The inspiring performance is particularly positive when accelerating quickly and when overtaking. The airbox intake system including the air filter is designed to make the flow as optimal as possible. The 44mm diameter throttle body directs the air/fuel mixture into large diameter intake ports and further into optimally shaped combustion chambers. The intake valve lift is 8,3 mm and the exhaust lift is 8,1 mm. The pistons are made of forged aluminum.

The sporty, short gear ratio supports powerful acceleration between 30 and 130 km/h. The anti-hopping clutch is not only designed to be light and strong, but also eliminates unwanted rear wheel heave when downshifting too early. The exhaust system of the CB1000R is weight-optimized and gives the machine additional power in the mid-range. With the 4-in-2-in-1 system, the exhaust gases are first routed via four catalytic converters into a main chamber and then fed to the two-chamber silencers. The exhaust sound is subtly sonorous and turns into a pleasantly deep rumble from 5.500 rpm. To meet the Euro5 standard, linear LAF airflow sensors in the exhaust system replace previous lambda sensors to ensure a much more accurate measurement of the exhaust gases. The fuel consumption of the CB1000R is 5,8 l/100 km.

Engine electronics

  • Three driving modes (rain, standard, sport) plus freely adjustable user mode
  • Power delivery, engine braking and HSTC traction control are each adjustable in three stages

Thanks to the advanced Throttle By Wire control system, the CB1000R offers three pre-configured driving programs: Rain, Standard and Sport. These driving modes offer different combinations of the individual parameters. A freely configurable user mode is available for this purpose. The riding modes are managed via the left switch unit on the handlebars and the TFT display. Engine power, engine braking and HSTC traction control (Honda Selectable Torque Control) can each be adjusted in three stages. The HSTC can also be switched off completely if required.

  • The RAIN mode combines the smoothest possible power delivery with medium engine braking and strong intervention by the HSTC in the first three gears.
  • STANDARD mode uses the middle setting for power delivery, engine braking and HSTC. Compared to SPORT mode, the power delivery in first and second gear is limited slightly and the torque is reduced.
  • The SPORT mode supports maximum power delivery, low engine braking effect and the least possible intervention by the HSTC in order to be able to call up 100% power over all six gears and to achieve maximum torque in all throttle valve positions.
  • The USER mode allows each parameter to be configured individually in three levels (low/medium/high). This personalized setting can be conveniently saved and called up again if necessary.

Chassis

  • Torsion-resistant, lightweight mono backbone steel frame
  • Showa SFF BP fork, single-sided swingarm with monoshock damper
  • Dual disc brakes with radial-mount four-piston calipers and 310mm floating front discs

The proven chassis of the CB1000R consists of a mono backbone steel frame with aluminum cast plates to accommodate the single-sided swingarm. The steering head angle is 25°, trail is 100 mm and the wheelbase is 1.455 mm. The CB1000R weighs 212 kg with a full tank. The wheel load distribution (front/rear) is thus 48,5% to 51,5%. The seat height of 830 mm and the fat bar aluminum handlebar support an upright and naturally relaxed riding position. The tank, which has broad shoulders at the front, is cut out at the back and thus allows practical knee closure. The Showa Separate Function Fork Big Piston (SFF-BP) inverted fork is fully adjustable.

The components for rebound and compression damping are housed separately in one fork leg. This reduces the weight and allows a wide range of settings for optimal comfort and the best feeling of control. The rear Showa monoshock is adjustable in rebound damping and spring preload. Two radially mounted four-piston calipers with floating 310 mm brake discs decelerate at the front wheel. A two-piston brake caliper with a 256 mm brake disc is installed on the rear wheel. The ABS system with 2-channel technology supports safety. Handsomely designed 7-spoke cast aluminum wheels exude bold elegance. The 6 inch wide rear wheel rim is fitted with a 190/55 ZR17 tyre, the front wheel has a 120/70 ZR17 tyre.
