KTM introduces the SMR model year 2023!

In a discipline where tenths of a second and a few centimeters make the difference in a lap time or an overtaking manoeuvre, the precision and razor-sharp focus of the KTM 450 SMR is exactly what every supermoto fan or racer needs. The innovations start with the hydroformed, laser cut and robot welded frame. Focus and sensitivity at the front, stability at the back: this is the recipe for fast and powerful bikes on the Supermoto track. KTM has altered the longitudinal and torsional flexibility (also by adjusting the frame wall thickness) to ensure feedback is as immediate and precise as any rider, from novice to world champion, desires. The revised 2023 model year strut mount increases energy absorption and stability on a straight line. The bike effectively eliminates dive, which improves acceleration and corner exit.

The relocation of the rotating masses and the new strut itself also contribute to this. The internal footpegs reinforce the good feeling that the KTM 450 SMR 2023 can always be kept under control to its absolute limits. The two-piece aluminum subframe reinforced with polyamide not only offers excellent strength, but also improves handling even further. The rider feels the contact with the track through the CNC-milled fork bridge made of high-quality aluminum, now with a surface with increased grip for less "twisting" of the handlebars.

Leaning into the corner has never felt easier, thanks to the masterfully tuned cast aluminum swingarm flex, new 22mm rear axle and latest generation WP XACT suspension. The AER 48mm forks offer split damping, easy no-tool adjustment, and more benefits. Equally practical is the new, shorter, lighter (but still with the same spring travel) WP XACT shock absorber, which has been optimized with several improvements and thus offers extended damping properties. The WP XACT shock absorber is the most progressive, highest performing system ever fitted to a KTM Supermoto machine.

A 220mm disc and single-piston caliper take care of the rear, and the slipper clutch from SUTER and hydraulics from Brembo let you drift until it's time to shift. The KTM 450 SMR 2023 has Metzeler Racetec SM K1 tires (with a long usage window and a short warm-up time). When designing the new SOHC engine, the aim was to centralize the mass: now the engine fires with 63 hp and weighs just under 27 kg, almost half a kilo less than its predecessor.

The motor itself was tilted backwards and the chain sprocket was lowered by 3 mm; the new inner workings of the cylinder and the crankshaft optimization are further hallmarks of the 2023 model year. A revised 5-speed gearbox with a new transmission ratio comes from PANKL Racing Systems. Another feature is the new Quickshifter sensor on the shift drum, which allows upshifts without the clutch (can be deactivated via the multifunction switch on the handlebars). Keihin's engine management system regulates traction control, launch control and quickshifter and offers the ability to switch between 2 customizable engine maps. The KTM 450 SMR 2023 will be available soon from authorized KTM dealers.
