Model year 2021 - the KTM 1290 Super Adventure R!

The latest version of the KTM ADVENTURE models in the displacement class over 1000 cm3 - the KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE R - was developed to conquer demanding and challenging terrain and to take your rider to any place in the world. The 1290 generation KTM 2021 SUPER ADVENTURE R is ready to leave its tire imprint in the most remote places, and has been redesigned from the ground up with many innovative upgrades.

Maneuverability in any terrain

When developing the completely new 2021 version of the KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE R, the engineers concentrated on guaranteeing simple and intuitive handling even in the toughest terrain. The all-new bodywork offers excellent ergonomics and ensures that the fuel in the tank sits as low as possible to increase maneuverability and lower the center of gravity for better feedback in all situations.

The rider of the KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE R drives through curves even more dynamically: This is made possible by the steering head that has been moved back by 15 mm, the relocation of the front part of the engine and a slightly longer truss swing arm for more feedback when accelerating. The KTM engineers have analyzed and trimmed every inch of the bodywork in order to achieve the optimum strength and a perfect connection between rider and motorcycle.

A new three-part fuel tank with a capacity of 23 l further improves feedback and balance thanks to its low position. Just like the chassis, the rear frame has also been redesigned, and it now holds a sporty, stepped bench with a seat height of 880 mm, in slim dimensions and a practical storage compartment underneath.

The revised WP suspension of the 2021 generation further contributes to improved handling. With the best that WP XPLOR technology has to offer, the KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE R creates a direct link to off-road racing. The fully adjustable 48 mm fork with an impressive 220 mm travel offers a split damping function and can be quickly adjusted by turning the corresponding adjustment wheels. The WP PDS shock absorber offers the same spring travel. The system was tested and optimized in the Californian desert and in many different landscapes across Europe.

Performance-oriented technology

The KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE R of model year 2021 has been equipped with the latest electronics packages and consistently continues successful partnerships with pioneers such as Bosch. A new 6-D sensor filters information on the incline, position and behavior of the bike. These data influence the intervention of the motorcycle traction control, the engine drag torque control, the motorcycle stability control and the off-road ABS. To meet the needs of the modern off-road enthusiast, all driver assistance systems can be adjusted or switched off.

Aside from the standard RAIN, STREET, SPORT and OFFROAD modes, the optional RALLY mode allows the driver to make the throttle response more aggressive and to set one of nine different levels of rear wheel slip. The changes to adapt the bike to the respective terrain are all made on a new and even more user-friendly 7-inch TFT display, which is connected to a new connectivity unit. The now more practical menus can be accessed more quickly via the new display, while in conjunction with the KTM MY RIDE app it also provides crystal-clear turn-by-turn navigation.

Premium components

The KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE R is powered by the latest, Euro 5 compatible version of the LC8 engine, which is now 1,6 kg lighter than before, but still powerful 160 hp at 9.000 rpm and 138 Nm torque at 6.500 Rpm and thus defends the throne of the most powerful engine in this segment. In order to improve its heat dissipation and to lose a few grams of weight for better rideability, KTM has made every element of the V-2 power plant.

While the predecessor had a single cooler, the new KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE R 2021 has two separate units to optimize the airflow through the bike. Thanks to intelligently designed air ducts, less hot air reaches the driver's legs, which is particularly noticeable in slow, narrow passages.

The redesigned air filter box makes it possible to access the air filter by removing just four screws. The filter itself is now made up of vertical instead of horizontal blades, which helps keep dust and sand away from the bottom of the air filter box. Overall, this makes for an even better design for hardcore adventurers.

Other engine updates include lighter engine housings, new pistons, an improved shift mechanism, revised coatings and easier access to the air filter, as well as a new exhaust system with two manifolds. All of this makes the LC8 easier to turn, more reliable and more reliable in every situation. In addition, the engine only needs to be serviced every 15.000 km and consumes just 5,7 l of fuel per 100 km. In cooperation with PANKL, KTM has also optimized the gearshift mechanism for faster, smoother and more precise gear changes. These innovations are particularly noticeable in connection with the optional Quickshifter +, which now shifts even faster and more precisely.

In order to cope with the challenges of the terrain, the KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE R is equipped with premium components. Aluminum spoked wheels from ALPINA, which do not require a tube thanks to an O-ring in the spoke nipples, are now covered with new adventure tires from Bridgestone. The new generation of the KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE R comes with modern and sensational colors and graphics. The keyless system KTM RACE ON offers a new level of autonomy, separate sensors for the tire pressure control system guarantee even greater security and radial 4-piston brake calipers from Brembo bring the load to a stop or drift quickly at any time. The windshield, lever, footrests and handlebars are adjustable so that you can adapt your bike perfectly to you.

Like the S model, the KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE R also benefits from adapted optional software packages. While the Rally Pack offers the RALLY driving mode, the MTC slip adjustment and an adjustable throttle response, the even more extensive Tech Pack offers all the features of the Rally Pack as well as the Quickshifter +, the engine drag torque control, Hill Hold Control and the adaptive brake light.
