In the past 8 years, KTM has been able to shake up the ADVENTURE motorbike segment with its models with a displacement of over 1000 cm3. Now, thanks to extensive development progress, they are going one better and are presenting a new age of driver-oriented design and groundbreaking technology with the KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE S 2021. The KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE S spearheads the third generation of KTM ADVENTURE bikes with a displacement of more than 1000 cm3 and is the sportiest and most technically advanced adventure bike that has ever left the production facility in Mattighofen / Austria. It combines the advantages of a versatile sports tourer with great attention to ergonomics and comfort in any terrain. In short, this is the ultimate high-performance adventure motorcycle.

In order to sharpen the handling, the KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE S has been given a new chassis, which improves the weight distribution for the benefit of maneuverability. The driver can drive through bends even more dynamically thanks to moving the steering head back by 15 mm and moving the front part of the engine. In addition, its swing arm contributes to more stability when accelerating. Its boom was designed in such a way that the seat height was reduced without reducing its robustness or practicality. The rider's legs now enclose a new 23-liter fuel tank with a keyless lock, as well as bodywork that enhances the bike's maneuverability. Every inch of the fairing has been analyzed to maximize driving pleasure. The new seat of the KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE S is divided and can be adjusted by 20 mm. The handlebars, the brand new TFT display and the windshield, which was developed in the wind tunnel and can be adjusted in a range of 55 mm, are also adjustable. Overall, the bike's center of gravity has been further centralized and its weight distribution revised. This motorcycle wants to be ridden hard and cover long distances quickly.

Technology for even better performance

The driving experience is supported by a new generation of assistance systems that intervene in the RAIN, STREET, SPORT, OFFROAD driving modes and the improved (optional) RALLY driving mode even more unnoticed than before. In order to effortlessly master the best terrain in the world, the KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE S of the 2021 generation offers an innovative adaptive cruise control system as standard. This was developed in collaboration with Bosch. It automatically adjusts the distance to other road users in front of the motorcycle using radar sensors and can be set to five levels using the redesigned combination switch.

Driving fun is further increased by the new 7-inch TFT display, as this ensures seamless smartphone connectivity. Thanks to the now larger TFT display, the menu navigation can be controlled even more easily and various information graphics can be displayed even better in order to easily control the many functions of the bike. The TFT display is located above a newly designed storage compartment with a USB charging socket. To communicate with the new display, the KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE S has completely new switches on both sides of the handlebars, which enable new and more seamless user guidance. A series of new quick selection and favorites buttons allow the driver to change settings while driving and at the same time concentrate on the traffic.

Advanced components

The heart of the new KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE S is undoubtedly its revised and Euro 5 compatible V2 engine. Thanks to a new, thinner motor housing and a new oil circuit, it now delivers its brutal 160 hp and 138 Nm torque by 1,6 kg slimmer. The engine breathes through a new exhaust system with two manifolds, while the optional Quickshifter + now shifts even more smoothly thanks to a new switching mechanism from PANKL. New pistons further improve the reliability of the engine, which at the same time can work more effectively thanks to a new coolant / oil system. Its two new coolers, together with the newly designed bodywork, ensure that hot air is diverted away from the driver's legs. Service intervals of 15.000 km and low consumption round off the revised engine package.

In addition, the lean angle-dependent motorcycle traction control now has two independent controllers (one for the slip and one for the angle of inclination) that provide their own data and strategies. The cornering ABS and off-road ABS systems rely on the new motorcycle stability control from Bosch, while engine drag torque control is optional.

Thanks to a new generation of the semi-active WP APEX chassis, the KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE S can iron even difficult paths. The semi-active chassis improves the damping with its new valves, while the 6D sensor sends its data directly to the unit for precise calculation of the driving behavior.

The KTM PowerParts range, which has been specially revised for the KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE S, also includes the Suspension Pro package, which offers individual damping for fork and shock absorber, automatic preload adjustment and an anti-dive mode that can be switched off. The comprehensive Tech Pack includes the Rally Pack with the RALLY driving mode and the associated MTC slip adjustment, all Suspension Pro and Rally Pack features, the Quickshifter +, the engine drag torque control, Hill Hold Control and the adaptive brake light.
