2022 KTM 1290 Super Duke R & Super Duke R EVO!

KTM's flagship in the street sector was completely redesigned in 2020, which brought a number of technical improvements. Thanks to the improved LC8 engine, the weight has been reduced compared to the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R 2020. Their electronics package has also been redefined, making THE BEAST one of the most technically advanced motorcycles in the naked bike class. For the 2022 model year, KTM is now presenting another new edition of the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R. and thus exactly meets the expectations of the driver. Under the name of KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R EVO it draws on the legendary status of the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R and offers even more technical features, for example the 2nd generation of the semi-active WP APEX chassis.

With its new semi-active technology (SAT), the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R EVO underlines its supremacy at the top of the hyper-naked, but now shines with even better usability. The BEAST can be transformed from a comfortable street motorcycle for difficult road conditions to an even sportier racetrack motorcycle at the push of a button. Three different damping modes (COMFORT, STREET, SPORT) are standard on board.

In addition, the rear spring preload can be adjusted in 10 steps up to 20 mm via the TFT display and can thus be adapted to the needs of the driver. In this case the adjustment range is from 0% to 100%, in 10% or two mm steps. In addition to the standard suspension settings, the optional SUSPENSION PRO package offers three additional damping modes: TRACK, ADVANCED and AUTO.

  • The TRACK mode provides the toughest set-up that was developed in-house by KTM test drivers - ideal for the racetrack and for particularly fast routes on which drivers need additional support when braking intensely.
  • In the ADVANCED mode, the fork and suspension strut damping can be set to 8 levels. This mode is aimed at drivers who place a particularly high value on their suspension and want to adapt it to their driving style.
  • AUTO is the most intelligent of all damping modes and is able to recognize different driving styles and adjust the damping accordingly - softer and more comfortable when driving through the city, harder and more focused for aggressive, fast driving on mountain passes. These automatic adjustments are made so quickly that they cannot be felt while driving.

SUSPENSION PRO also offers three automatic preload leveling settings (LOW, STANDARD and HIGH). In these modes, the suspension is able to automatically adjust the preload to the weight of the driver and produce 3 different geometries:

  • AUTO-STANDARD: neutral and balanced geometry.
  • AUTO-LOW: relaxed, less aggressive, more comfortable geometry with a lower seat height.
  • AUTO-HIGH: aggressive, agile geometry for the racetrack with more weight above the front wheel.

Another optional feature of SUSPENSION PRO is the anti-diving function, which prevents the front wheel from submerging when braking hard. Like most electronic functions, this can of course also be deactivated.

The new KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R and KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R EVO continue to offer the standard riding modes RAIN, STREET, SPORT. In addition, the optional TRACK and PERFORMANCE modes are available for improved feedback on engine behavior, with reduced traction control and anti-wheelie function. All of the above modes can be switched while driving.

including short-stroke throttle grip

Thanks to a new short-stroke throttle grip, the stroke of which has been reduced by 7 degrees to 65 degrees, the throttle response is now even more direct. KTM's research and development department made this change not only to make the throttle response more direct, but also to relieve the rider's wrist and reduce the elbow angle at full speed.

Visually, the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R and the KTM 1290 DUKE R EVO retain their aggressiveness, but are now available in two new color variants. The well-known blue-orange version is now being supplemented by a brand new version in silver and orange, which perfectly matches the aggressive and powerful attributes of the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R. The typical orange frame of the “R” models from KTM is of course built in as well as the orange powder-coated rims. This makes it clear once again that THE BEAST is ready to attack.

A large number of KTM PowerParts are available for the new models so that KTM fans can further customize their bikes and make them even more personal. In addition, a specially created KTM PowerWear collection guarantees that riders on or off their motorcycle are always READY TO RACE. The KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R and KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R EVO of the 2022 generation will soon be available from authorized KTM dealers.
