Ducati expands the Panigale V4 family with the introduction of the numbered Panigale V4 SP, which confirms the return of the initials "SP" (Sport Production) on the fairing of a Ducati super sports motorcycle after many years. This abbreviation, which was introduced for the first time on the legendary Ducati 851, identified the versions that formed the basis for the development of the racing motorcycles and that were already used in the context of the earlier Sport Production Championship. Ducati still uses the abbreviation “SP” for series motorcycles with specific technical equipment that make them even faster on the racetrack.

In keeping with this philosophy, the Panigale V4 SP differs from the Panigale V4 S MY21 both in the special paintwork and in the steering head milled from solid, which shows the consecutive number of the motorcycle. In addition, the Panigale V4 SP has improved equipment features in the chassis and engine, which were developed to increase driving dynamics when used on the racetrack. The specific equipment also makes it possible to reduce the weight of the motorcycle by 4 kg compared to the Panigale V1 S and thus to achieve 173 kg dry.

The “Winter Test” paintwork that characterizes the motorcycle is unmistakable and fascinating. It is inspired by the Ducati Corse motorcycles that were used in the pre-season tests of the MotoGP and SBK championships. The matte black of the panels, combined with the matte black of the carbon rims and fenders, contrasts with the bright red accents and sheen of the exposed brushed aluminum tank, giving the motorcycle a truly professional look.

The Panigale V4 SP is also characterized by features derived from the Superleggera V4, such as the light 5-spoke carbon rims, the exclusive Brembo Stylema R® front brake calipers and the Brembo front brake pump with MCS (Multiple Click System) and "remote adjustment device".

The carbon rims are 1,4 kg lighter than the forged aluminum rims and reduce the moment of inertia (reduction of gyroscopic effect) and make the motorcycle significantly more agile and lighter when changing direction, while the Brembo Stylema R® brake calipers provide strong braking performance and exceptional performance constancy even at high speeds and guarantee long use on the racetrack without changing the brake lever travel. The brake calipers are operated by a Brembo MCS radial pump, which enables the brake pressure to be adjusted quickly while driving.

The Desmosedici Stradale engine of the "SP" is equipped with a dry clutch, which is essential for optimal performance on the racetrack when it comes to going to the limit. We also have a lighter 520 chain.

The equipment of the Panigale V4 SP is completed by the adjustable footrests milled from solid aluminum, which enable the driver to find an optimal seating position. In addition, there is the front fender made of carbon and the racing kit included in the scope of delivery, consisting of the rear seat cover, a clutch cover made of carbon, caps for removing the license plate holder and the mirrors as well as the telemetry kit Ducati Data Analyzer + (DDA +) with GPS Module with which you can professionally analyze your performance on the racetrack.

Thanks to its technical equipment, the Panigale V4 SP is the ideal motorcycle for every ambitious hobby rider who wants to be fast on the racetrack right away. The motorcycle is easy to ride and requires little physical exertion regardless of riding skills. The quality of the bike when braking is exceptionally good, as is the ease with entering into an inclined position and the easy exit when accelerating out of a curve. A hobby driver will be faster on the "SP" than if he were to drive the more demanding "R" version.

The Panigale V4 SP is characterized by a special paintwork known as the "Winter Test". It was inspired by the Ducati Corse motorcycles that were used in the pre-season tests of the MotoGP and SBK championships.

The "Total Black" effect, which is created by the matt black of the cladding and the carbon rims, stands out against the brilliance of the brushed aluminum tank, while the bright red accents that characterize the rear, tank and cladding contrast with the red color of the Refer to Borgo Panigale sports motorcycles. The seat is specially tailored to the material used and bears the "V4 SP" logo, while the carbon winglets are decorated with the Italian flag, which can also be seen on the Panigale V4 R SBK factory bikes.

The racing look can be accentuated by removing the mirrors and license plate holder and installing them using the appropriate hole-locking covers supplied with the motorcycle.

Motor

The Panigale V4 SP is powered by the 1.103 cc Desmosedici Stradale engine, which complies with the European Euro 5 standard for reducing emissions. A 90 ° V4 derived from MotoGP with desmodromic valve control, which is unique of its kind due to the counter-rotating crankshaft and the "twin pulse" ignition sequence. The engine is able to deliver an output of 214 hp at 13.000 rpm and a torque of 12,6 kg at 9.500 rpm.

The 90 ° V4 of the Panigale V4 SP uses an STM EVO-SBK dry clutch that is milled from solid. Compared to the oil bath clutch of the Panigale V4 S, the dry clutch guarantees a more effective anti-hopping function when the motorcycle is subjected to extreme stress on the racetrack, even with the most aggressive downshifts, and smoother running in all phases in which you do not accelerate. It is also possible to individually adjust the level of the “mechanical” engine brake by choosing a second optional spring, which is available as an accessory in the Ducati Performance catalog. The assembly of the open carbon fiber clutch cover, which is included, gives the classic metallic sound that is loved by all Ducatisti.

The motor transfers the power to the rear wheel through a 0,4 kg lighter chain drive with a 520 chain, with a corresponding pinion and chainring.

Chassis

As for the chassis, the Panigale V4 SP is equipped with the latest technical components, which are derived from the Ducati Superleggera V4. These include carbon rims, the Brembo Stylema R® front brake calipers and the Brembo brake pump with MCS system. In addition, there is the steering head milled from the solid with consecutive numbering, as well as the high-quality and adjustable footrests made of aluminum with carbon heel protection.

The high-quality rims of the Panigale V4 SP with 5 split spokes are made of solid carbon fiber and have aluminum hubs. Both allow a weight saving of 1,4 kg compared to the forged aluminum rims of the Panigale V4 S, which means a significant reduction in the gyroscopic forces and brings an advantage in terms of maneuverability and ease when changing direction.

The front brake system consists of two Brembo discs with a diameter of 330 mm in combination with the new Brembo Stylema® R monoblock brake calipers, whose pistons, derived from racing, are provided with ventilation holes to improve the stability of the lever travel after numerous laps on the racetrack reduce the residual torque. The front brakes are operated by a Brembo radial pump with MCS (Multiple-Click-System), with which the wheelbase can be quickly and easily adjusted in three configurations in order to customize the braking feel. The distance adjustment of the brake lever is equipped with the "remote adjustment device" with which you can adjust the position of the lever by pressing a button on the left handle; similar to racing motorcycles.

The rider footpegs are made from a high quality anodized aluminum alloy that will retain their original appearance over time. Not only are these footpegs a delight to look at, they also allow the driver to find the optimal position that best suits their physique and driving style. They are equipped with a carbon heel protector and movable brake and shift pedals to minimize the risk of breakage in the event of slipping. In addition, they are designed so that you can quickly switch between a conventional and an inverted switching configuration.

Like the Panigale V4 S, the SP version is also equipped with an Öhlins NIX-30 fork, an Öhlins TTX36 rear shock absorber and an Öhlins steering damper controlled by the second generation Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 system. The main advantages of this system offer the driver the possibility of individually adapting the intensity of intervention on the suspension according to the individual driving phases (braking, cornering, acceleration) and to modify the operating parameters of the individual hardware components. In addition, they enable the driver to have a softer basic setting, as the dynamic system automatically adapts to the driving behavior while driving.

Electronics

The Panigale V4 SP is equipped with a state-of-the-art electronics package based on the use of the 6-axis Bosch inertial platform, which includes control elements for controlling all driving phases. The electronic equipment includes:

The operating parameters of each setting are managed by the new Riding Mode strategy introduced on the Panigale V4 MY2021 range, which allows the rider to make quick comparisons on the track between two different configurations in order to define the best set-up for himself. The “Race” riding mode was divided into two mappings for use on the race track (Race A and Race B), which are now freely comparable in their individual parameters and complement the existing “Sport” and “Street” riding modes.

The Panigale V4 SP also features the new evolution of the Ducati Traction Control EVO 3 (DTC EVO 3), which intervenes in the middle of the curve during the throttle response phase with the aim of gently releasing the Desmosedici Stradale by adjusting the torque delivered by the engine to control and avoid the torque peak to make the acceleration out of the curves even easier and more predictable.

If you accelerate too much when exiting a curve and the rear wheel loses traction, the gyroscopic sensor detects the lateral acceleration and reduces the engine power. This enables a ride at the grip level without an unexpected loss of grip on the rear wheel. The new software adjusts the torque output when exiting the curve, as it recognizes the angular acceleration of the crankshaft and thus makes the power output more even and with a better feeling for the driver.

The new function is active in all DTC levels. Levels 1 to 4 are provided for dry routes, level 7 for wet routes and rain tires. All information necessary for the journey is shown on the high-resolution 5 ”TFT color display (approx. 187 PPI - 800xRGBx480), which is displayed via a intuitive interface also enables the setting of the individual control elements. The Panigale V4 SP is equipped with the Ducati Data Analyzer + (DDA +) kit with GPS module. The Ducati Data Analyzer + (DDA +) is a telemetry system comparable to those used in racing. It consists of a device for data acquisition via a CAN-BUS line and analysis software for Windows and Mac PCs.

The device stores vehicle usage parameters such as DTC, speed, gear, throttle valve opening angle, engine speed, front brake pressure, etc. and locates them on the route. As soon as the device is disconnected from the motorcycle and plugged into the computer's USB port, the software allows you to load the various recorded parameters and analyze your performance on the route.
