In an emergency, it protects the tank, the fork and the frame in the area of the steering head from major injuries that can easily occur in the event of a fall, a fall or an accident caused by the handlebars turning over. More importantly, it also protects hands and arms from being trapped. We are talking about the steering stop. An often small, inconspicuous metal block that determines the maximum steering angle of the handlebar and, in case of doubt, should prevent it from collapsing. Actually a sensible thing. If it weren't for a serious point: Frequently, the welded or forged, often undersized stops are bent or even tear off when a force is applied. This inevitably results in the loss of the operating license because the frame loses its approval. Because the inconspicuous component is relevant for the main inspection.
The necessary replacement frame and the conversion of the entire motorcycle devour a lot of money.
For a large number of BMW models, Wunderlich reduces the risk of steering stops breaking off with the use of energy-absorbing steering stop limiters. Support point, reliably protected. They reduce the risk of damage!
They limit and dampen the steering angle in the event of a tip-over or fall thanks to their large-format rubber blocks, even before the standard steering stop is loaded with full force. The material properties of the limiters are selected so that the impact damping is initially soft and progressive as the steering angle increases. They absorb the impact energy, protect the original steering stops and reduce the risk of the series steering stop bending or breaking off.
Of course, the limiters also create safe space for hands and forearms in the event of a fall and thus reduce the risk of trapping. For technical reasons, the protective function requires a slight reduction in the steering angle that is inconspicuous in everyday life. The function of the steering lock is of course not impaired.
Wunderlich offers the steering stop limiters for Telelever and models with telescopic forks.
The mounting of the steering stop limiters on telescopic forks is very easy: They are first attached to the fork tubes with a concealed, high-quality 3M adhesive tape and then attached with a robust cable tie that fits inconspicuously into the circumferential groove provided. For the Telelever, the Wunderlich technicians have developed a central bracket to hold the limiters, which is also easy to assemble. The steering stop limiters are Made in Germany and Wunderlich offers them including a 5-year guarantee from € 39,90.
