Upgrade - 2020 Lanmodo Vast Pro Night Vision System!

It's been exactly 1 year since we did that Have tried the night vision device LANMODO Car Night Vision. The device should be called Night Vision Assistant function the premium manufacturers of Audi, BMW and Mercedes bring into every vehicle at an affordable price. And basically it worked! However, the device also had to endure a few points of criticism. Because more than depicting the current situation in front of the vehicle (to x-ray), the night vision device couldn't actually. Why not the full function of one Dashcam integrate so that you can save two devices? Or why couldn't the system work with a Backup camera couple? The 8,2 inch (approx. 21 cm) IPS screen and the built-in technology would have been perfect for both!

Lanmodo Vast Pro Night Vision System

And these are exactly the functions that the new 2020 Lanmodo Vast Pro Night Vision System has, which you CAN BUY HERE. There is now an integrated dashcam, you can use a maximum 128 GB memory card (included with us) and our personal highlight is this optional 1080P rear view camera (IP67) with 170 ° viewing angle, which, like the front system, has a night vision function. Due to the lower illumination from the reversing lights at night, not quite as detailed, but with a high probability still much more effective than most other reversing cameras on the market. And during the day the picture is due to the clear view (the front system still has the windshield in between) even clearer. But the focus is of course on the night vision function of the 45 ° front camera with 5 mega-pixels resolution. In our test, you can illuminate everything in the area of a good 300 meters in front of the vehicle and thus significantly more than conventional xenon headlights. And it doesn't matter whether it's raining, snowing or foggy.

Only the relatively small radius of the front camera is a bit surprising. We would have liked a few more degrees. In some bends, pedestrians / cyclists who are overtaken are now and then at an angle that is not covered. The device convinces again with a high-quality workmanship and the two attachment options using a stand or bracket for the windshield. Only the two necessary cables when integrating the reversing camera are annoying if you want to install the system as invisibly as possible. With regard to the reversing camera, a variant with radio transmission would be more contemporary and that would also save a complete cable. And another point of criticism is, in our opinion, the dashcam's parking mode, which only works if the power connection is ensured via the OBD variant that is also included. Then, however, the device is in continuous operation and the interior is always bright as day when the monitor is not used manually deactivated! That could have been solved better with a built-in battery and an automatic mode.

Reversing camera too big and without radio

And the reversing camera could have been a bit smaller. As mentioned, it convinces with a high resolution and a simple, if a bit annoying, connection. For our vehicle, we tapped the power directly from the PDC control unit, but the connection to the main unit has to be implemented by laying cables through the cabin. Wireless and a smartphone app for downloading the videos would be the best option. Switching from reverse gear to reverse gear is extremely quick, by the way. Only the first start-up when starting the engine could be faster. If you want to reverse out of a parking space and rely on the image from the rear camera, you either have to blindly drive out of the parking space or wait about 10 seconds until the system has booted.

hardly any weaknesses worth mentioning

Essentially, however, the "weaknesses" of the predecessor are clearly eliminated. Videos are now finally with a dashcam including loop function and, if desired, with sound from fore and behind on the slightly smaller 8 inch (approx. 20 cm) monitor (Predecessor was 8,2 inches (about 21 cm)) recorded and can be important "witnesses" in an accident. In addition, the integrated night vision function is a decisive feature compared to a normal dashcam. It always ensures good shots from the front and back. The installation is essentially self-explanatory and simple and can also be implemented by laypeople using the connection options provided. The large screen allows an excellent view, only a further gradation of the brightness would be desirable, since in total darkness the screen is still too bright for our taste. With functions such as the integrated G-Sensor, the dash & rear cam or the ability to watch the videos immediately, the Lanmodo Vast Pro Night Vision System definitely convinces us.

Wish list for a successor model:

  1. Wi-Fi function including APP for downloading the videos
  2. Smaller reversing camera, with radio, visual colored lines on the screen and acoustic warning tones
  3. built-in battery for parking function
  4. thinner power cord
  5. faster start-up (boot) of the device
  6. German menu / German operating instructions
  7. Welcome screen turn 180 ° (Lanmodo lettering on the device can be rotated)
  8. Screen brightness can be dimmed even further
  9. Navigation system (coupling via smartphone to use Google Maps etc.)
