Manelord Dent - Paint-free dents repair set under test

We wanted to know: What is the benefit of such a dents repair kit, which also Dellenlifter, Removal Auszubulwerkzeug and pullers called or with search terms such as "paint-free dents pull" or "car repair kit" is courted? Amazon's 27 € denturing tool will normally come with some utensils that make for a weary smile in the hands of metal plumbers or accomplished car mechanics. Although the bulge tool is a tool that can be quite suitable for repairing dents in the metal sheet of a vehicle, but you are an absolute layman, so it is difficult. If something goes wrong, a subsequent painting with spatulas and everything that belongs to it is due. Although the use and application of the denture tool usually causes no scratches or damage in the paint, to 99% the paint coating is already damaged in the accident.

the dent before in the side sill

Tiny hairline cracks in the paintwork are normal with such "cold deformation" and after 1-2 winters at the latest, water penetrates and the seemingly undamaged dent begins to rust. Also, if the sheet metal is dented on one edge and the paint is scratched down to the primer, it's just not possible to remove the dent, at least with the product we tried. Our dent was on the lower part of the side skirt (slightly reinforced sheet metal), which can be compared to a dent in an edge. So slightly difficult conditions. We first washed the area, dried it and polished it up with some fine grinding paste and a rotary polishing machine so that the glue could adhere 100%. We did not use a fixation lamp because the dent was clearly visible without additional help. The set comes with various pull adapters and a recoil mandrel.

different tension adapters are included

The hot glue is applied to the cable adapter and this should, of course, be done without air bubbles if feasible. It is best to apply enough glue so that it does not run over the edges, but still completely covers the adapter. We tried everything from the small to the large adapter and the parts were always placed exactly on the dent in the sill. Then we applied the Manelord Dent and tried gently at first, but after about 10 attempts it was much more violent to pull the sheet metal out. You need feeling, you should never approach the matter with violence.

Remnants of the glue are easily removable

But after countless attempts without any visible improvement, everyone will probably tackle the kickback spikes with more power. With us, too, at some point our patience was over and we tried with a lot of glue and strength to force the dent to give up. But we haven't managed to reduce it even a little. On the net you can often find examples where the dent was completely battered afterwards. This is certainly possible if there is no bracing underneath, the dent is not near an edge or the sheet metal is particularly thin. If this is not the case, as is the case with our vehicle, we doubt that this variant of repairing damage "for the layperson" will be successful.

Alternative – remove the car dent with a hair dryer:

  • certain types of dents can occur with an ordinary one Foehn, Dry ice or a can compressed air be removed (for small to medium-sized dents)
  • Blow dry method to remove the dent
    - usually possible if present in the sheet metal of the fuselage, hood, doors, roof, fenders (on a flat surface without edges)
    – the method is suitable for flat dents without major kinks or damage to the paintwork
    – the dent should not smaller than 8 cm
    – you need a combination of hair dryer (with temperature setting options, low, medium, high, cold, warm, hot), Rubber gloves (because of dry ice), compressed air in liquid form, a pack of dry ice, can of compressed air, aluminum foil
    – Heat the sheet metal where the dent is (so the paint remains elastic, set the hair dryer to "medium" and hold it 13 to 18 cm away from the car surface)
    – Place aluminum foil over the surface of the dent area (only when dry ice is used instead of compressed air)
    – Put on work or rubber gloves
    – Apply dry ice or compressed air to the area
    – the abrupt change in temperature causes the surface to expand (when heating) and then contract (when cooling down)
    – if using dry ice, gently rub a block of ice over the aluminum foil on the dented area
    - If using a can of compressed air, turn the can upside down and spray the surface of the dented area until the area is covered with a layer of liquid ice
    – Apply ice or air only briefly
    – after some time, a popping sound should be heard
    – at best, the dent is then removed
    – repeat the process several times if necessary
