We were asked by a supplier of spoiler lips for the front bumper and small tailgate tear-off edges, if we could get the two Low-budget Try to test products on one of our vehicles. And since the product images showed two quite subtle components, we decided to install both of them on our VW Phaeton. But of course, a front or rear spoiler, especially on an elegant vehicle like the Phaeton, is clearly a matter of taste. The big advantage of the two spoilers is the fact that both accessories can be removed at any time without much effort. We started with the EZ-Lip spoiler lip for the front apron we once had a few years ago had installed on our Opel Corsa, Until the sale of the vehicle, the lip had kept impeccable and survived many a winter. The EZ-Lip 001 Classic was delivered with 3M tape. The lip is also available as a pro version which is then twice as large with a visible surface of almost 6 cm. For our vehicle but we kept the normal Variant for harmonious. The cultivation is self-explanatory. On the back of the soft rubber is the 3M tape applied to the previously thoroughly cleaned apron. Following our little tutorial:

Both components are installed in about 50 minutes

NOTICE: We would like to illustrate the correct way to install the EZ Lip Spoiler Lip + Rear Spoiler Lip, but strongly suggest that we assume no liability for the accuracy. We neither guarantee the timeliness and correctness, nor the completeness or quality of the information provided. Liability claims against us for material or immaterial nature that may arise as a result of the use of information in this report are generally excluded to the extent permitted by law.

In the VW Phaeton, the basic shape of the front apron is unfortunately only very conditionally suitable for the cultivation of the EZ-LIP. The apron is very pointed in the lower part, especially in the middle, so that only a small area of the glue is really connected to the bumper. We helped ourselves by simply fixing the spoiler lip with some body glue in the middle section. A retrofit is so difficult, but still feasible. Also this glue can be removed again. Although much more difficult compared to the 3M tape.

not really more difficult - the rear spoiler lip

Then it went to the back of our VW Phaeton. Here a small spoiler lip with carbon optics should be installed. She also comes with a 3M tape to attach. Again, we have previously checked whether the spoiler lip at all the necessary length to fit. In this component, it is so that the spoiler lip can be cut either right and left on height of the edge of the tailgate and the remaining parts are disposed of, alternatively, but it is also possible to attach the small remnants on both sides of the side wall. That's exactly what we did and thus missed our VW Phaeton a three-piece spoiler lip. And here, too, the process is self-explanatory.

Adhesive tape with too little adhesive force

We will observe the quality of the components over a longer period of time. However, both the EZ-Lip and the rear spoiler lip have already completed their first test at + 200 km / h and also the car wash could not harm either component. However, the rear spoiler lip has yet before the first Tesfahrt pointed out that the used 3M tape is not in the beginning comparable to the tape of the EZ-Lip. Without external influences, the small side parts have loosened and also the lip on the tailgate would have flown completely at the latest on the highway. Due to this, we later decided to attach all three parts of the spoiler lip to the vehicle with the body adhesive of the front spoiler and let the 24h adhesive harden. Unfortunately, this is not visible in the video.

And finally ... Both the rear spoiler and the EZ-Lip refine the vehicle discreetly and effectively. However, we do not want to judge whether the aerodynamic efficiency and directional stability increases at higher speeds (as promised by the provider). With regard to “our” vehicle, the EZ-Lip's tape was not enough and additional adhesive was necessary. The tape on the rear spoiler was completely useless on our vehicle and we attached all three parts of the spoiler lip with our own adhesive. Both components can be installed and do not require approval by the TÜV. Carrying an ABE is also not necessary.
