Stellantis has announced the launch this year of the new Abarth 500e, a beefed-up version of the Fiat 500e. The car is said to offer better dynamics than the Abarth 695, especially at speeds in the 20-40, 40-60 and 60-100 km/h ranges. The electric Fiat 500e Abarth aka Abarth 500e has the same battery as the civilian version of the Fiat 500e, 42 (~39) kWh, and the motor driving the front wheels delivers up to 113,7 kW/155 hp and up to 235 Nm of torque.

Abarth 500e, the driving modes

The Abarth 500e rides on 18-inch wheels and accelerates from 7 to 0 km/h in 100 seconds with a battery charge of over 90 percent. The car has a power of almost 114 kW and is characterized by excellent dynamics in the city, including when overtaking. In order to encourage the driver to use up the energy quickly, the manufacturer will equip him with the Scorpion Street and Scorpion Track driving modes. The Scorpion allows you to use maximum power and will greatly recover energy when you take your foot off the accelerator, while the Scorpion Track does not.

The third driving mode will be Turismo, where the maximum engine power is limited to 100 kW/136 hp and the maximum torque is limited to 220 Nm instead of 235 Nm. The first variant to debut is the Abarth 500e Scorpionissima (German Skorpion), which comes standard with a 10,25-inch touchscreen and is compatible with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Here you can also install all of your favorite apps from your smartphone, such as your favorite online casino. The audio system is JBL and the dashboard is covered in Alcantara. It also shows the position when parking in a bird's eye view.

The sound experience of the new Abarth 500e

Although electric cars soothe ears with their quiet ride, the Abarth 500e audio recording website first acquaints us with the noise the little "electric vehicle" will be making. The only thing missing is the gradation of the "turns" depending on the load and speed. The sound is generated electronically and is integrated into the AVAS system, some of its tones can be turned off: the new Abarth 500e is the only small car to offer an immersive sound experience for those who want to drive electric without forgetting the unmistakable Abarth "roar " to renounce. It has always been synonymous with the power and performance of the passionate riders of this brand.

In line with this philosophy, the Key On-Off system reproduces the sound of a guitar in the passenger compartment each time the vehicle is switched on and off, thus directly reproducing the sensations experienced on board an Abarth. The AVAS (Acoustic Vehicle Alert System) also receives a specific "jingle" that transforms a legal requirement into a sound that every Scorpio fan will recognize. In addition, the first time you exceed 20 km/h, there is a "guitar sound" that reflects the idiosyncratic and unconventional soul of the Scorpion cars.

Moreover, the new Abarth 500e is the first and only city car that can be equipped with the sound generator, for those who do not want to remember the Abarth brand: the unmistakable "Ruggito" Abarth. The Sound Generator accompanies the performance by further enhancing the sound of a petrol-powered Abarth engine. The sound generator is offered as an alternative to the standard sound experience and is equipped with an AVAS that reproduces the sound of a petrol engine - deviating from the standard guitar sound.

Excellent also in extra-urban traffic

Thanks to its electric architecture, a more effective weight distribution, better torque and a wider wheelbase, the new Abarth 500e is faster and more exciting both in urban and extra-urban driving, guaranteeing the best performances. New design elements also give the new Abarth 500e a unique and unmistakable style. They are positioned higher and together with the body panels and roof curve give the Skorpion an even more striking look.

The Abarth 500e also performs better than the Abarth 695 in terms of responsiveness. It is 1 second faster in city traffic and accelerates from 50 to 20 km/h 40% faster than its petrol-powered competitor. Outside the city, too, the new electric Abarth is faster, for example in hairpin bends, where it reaches the desired speed from 40 to 60 km/h in just 1,5 seconds. That means it's much faster than the petrol engine, which falls 15 meters behind and hits 60 km/h a second later.

How long does it take to charge the battery?

The new electric Abarth 500e has a 42 kWh battery coupled to a 113,5 kW with a 155 hp electric motor. It offers top acceleration in its category with zero emissions at the same time. In order to reduce charging times to a minimum, it is equipped with an 85 kW fast charging system, which enables the vehicle battery to be charged quickly and guarantees endless driving pleasure.

Among other things, it takes less than 5 minutes to accumulate an energy reserve for the daily mileage (approx. 40 km), or less than the time required to choose the next destination. If you are in a hurry, the fast charge reaches 80% in just 35 minutes. The Abarth 500e is not yet available in Germany. According to some sources, it will be available for sale online in Q1 2023. Orders have been accepted since November 22nd.
