Anyone who - like us - deals with the topic of cars every day has definitely noticed it. The trend to drive VW is due to the so-called "VW exhaust scandal“The way we can observe it doesn't exist and that's a good thing! Vexcash AG from Berlin has published a very interesting infographic that underpins our impression with facts.

VW Golf as the most popular car at the top

Due to the legal regulation that only allows driving a car at the age of 18 (with accompaniment from 17 years) it is understandable that two thirds of the vehicle owners are under 20 years old when they buy their first car. Since this is of course a phase of life that for many falls exactly during the apprenticeship period, the budget available is often rather manageable. So if you have put a few thousand euros on the high edge, you should carefully consider your first car purchase. VEXCASH, as a leading short-term loan provider, has dealt intensively with this topic and published the findings in an infographic.

Driving a car costs: newbies rely on durability and not on bargains

Who would have thought that, according to the infographic, novice drivers in this country prefer a solid used vehicle instead of a newer imported vehicle. On average, the first car is around 6,2 years old and has run around 82.000 kilometers. In my time it was different, but nowadays novice drivers prefer to rely on safety instead of a large engine. OK then…

If you look at the vehicles on one of the major vehicle exchanges, this statement is very consistent. A 6-year-old VW Polo 1.2 Trendline, for example, costs around € 4.000 and has run around 70.000km and is equipped with important features such as ESP, ABS and airbags. The same applies to a VW Fox or, at the upper end of the scale, to the VW Polo type 9N3.

keep in mind running costs

Before buying, it is important to find out about the running costs. Depending on the insurance and of course the type of vehicle, these can vary from 200 to 400 euros per month. A possible loss of value is not even included. But even here you have to know how to help yourself. Often you can let the vehicle run through the parents using the second car regulation and the no-claims class from grandpa is also gladly taken over.

VW stable - no decline

As already mentioned, newcomers to the license are almost unanimous in their choice of brand across Germany. Central Germany is firmly in the hands of VW, the north also likes to use a Mercedes as the first vehicle and in the south it can also be a BMW or a Ford next to Daimler.

The sale is faster than expected

Almost half give the first car the pass again after 2-3 years. The desire for a different model is too great and often the apprenticeship is finished and more money is available.
