The British company Lunaz design specializes in converting to e-drive of historic vehicles. It has been set to no model but would like to offer the service for almost every vehicle where a conversion to electric seems feasible. With at least 390.000 € should be expected, but there is also a complete restoration for the Oldi to do so. The currently available power of the electric motors ranges from 135 to almost 600 PS. Almost always the drive train is amplified or completely replaced, because in particular the torque is significantly higher in an electric drive compared to a conventional combustor. The engines are powered by state-of-the-art batteries that Lunaz configures itself from standard modules. The dimensions of such a battery are always dependent on the available storage space of the vehicle. Normally there are two packages which are distributed to the engine compartment and the underbody. This allows a good weight distribution at the same time and a maximum of 400 km range should also be in it.

Traction control, ABS, cruise control, ASR & Co.

And like a real Restomod vehicle, Lunaz cars can also be equipped with modern control systems such as traction control, ABS, cruise control, ASR & Co. thanks to in-house control electronics. The company is converting the brake system to modern components with a disc system and the brake even works regeneratively and thus recovers energy. Other modern components such as smooth power steering or LED lights for the interior and the latest infotainment systems can also be ordered. Visually, however, one deliberately holds back. Although the exhaust disappears at the rear, the fuel filler flap remains, for example. There is no filler neck behind it, but the CHAdeMO and Type 2 charging socket. All parts that are necessary for such a conversion are manufactured by Lunaz partly by hand or by means of 3D printing. And it is very likely that the electrical conversions will even be reversible. And as proof that we are not only dealing with theory, two vehicles have already been completed. A noble 1961 Rolls-Royce Phantom V which received a 120 kWh battery and a classic 1953 Jaguar XK120 which has an 80 kWh unit on board. Photos: Lunaz design

His collection of books, magazines and brochures on the subject of car tuning has now reached such proportions that he himself has become a walking reference work for the tuning scene.  More about Thomas
