Small defects in the electronics of the car can often result in a large repair effort. Electronics parts that have defects are often directly exchanged, which can result in high costs. However, there are cheaper alternatives. A lot of driving has been automated in recent years. This affects both the comfort and safety of the vehicles. It doesn't matter whether it's electric seat adjustment or assistance systems for autonomous driving. Electricity makes our everyday life easier. However, due to the high proportion of electronic components, even with small defects, you almost always have to visit a workshop. The installation of a new LED turn signal including control unit can easily cost +1.000 euros.
Repair saves money!
A large number of such control units are installed in a vehicle. Whether ABS, engine or for the instrument cluster. There is a controller for almost everything. If it fails, the workshop usually simply installs a new one. The price for this is at least a few hundred euros. But instead of installing a new part, you can also use the old one repair. At best, this lowers the price a tenth the sum for the new part. Of course, not every control unit can be repaired with reasonable effort. But various pixel errors in the display, CD drives with read errors or defects in the backlighting of various instruments can often be easily repaired. But also for devices with more complex functions, e.g. B. with the ABS or engine control, a repair is long gone not hopeless.
Asking in the workshop can be worthwhile!
The problem is that many workshops lack the equipment for such a repair. That is why it is often decided here to replace the corresponding part completely. The customer is not even offered to send it to a specialist company and have it repaired. However, due to the delivery times, you have to plan more time for the procedure. But if you can do without your car for a few days, you should urgently ask the workshop and, if in doubt, insist on checking for a possible repair.
