Optical tuning without permission: underbody lighting

An underbody lighting is not allowed in German traffic, it is still offered. It can, however, be used on enclosed grounds such as in racing and off-road. Among other things, extremely strong Letronix LEDs are used, which are perfect - but off the StVZO - suitable for show purposes.

Special tuning optics with Letronix

Just the Letronix underbody lighting gives the vehicle a tuning optics such as in "The Fast-and the Furious", There is a wireless remote control, the car can emit down white, blue, red, green or RGB multicolor light. Most tuners find this very chic, moreover, the assembly is easy. Unfortunately, the German StVZO does not allow such a thing, it only allows white light to the front and the reversing lights, yellow flashing light and red light for the brake lights and the taillight. An official Authorization Accordingly, there are no underbody lights, they are illegal.

Why is the German StVZO so strict with the underbody lighting?

The German legislator assumes that this light could irritate other road users and therefore represents a danger. Anyone who gets caught on public roads, pays a fine, gets points in Flensburg and loses the approval for the car. Should there be an accident due to the light, the driver could even face criminal consequences. He also loses his insurance cover. Therefore, private hobbyists should be very careful and would rather be advised to install in a tuning workshop. This also explains to him what he can do with the underbody lighting and when he might be able to switch it on by remote control - for example, in a demonstration on a purely private site, It is also possible to control the underbody lighting with a special circuit so that it only lights up when the driver's door is opened. Then the car can practically not move brightly, if the driver does not want to be traveling with the door open.

Under-floor lighting at auto shows

Since there are the underbody lights, which are not considered so restrictive in other states such as the US incidentally, they can also be installed and demonstrated, for example, at trade fairs on predominantly stationary vehicle. For installation, the space on the subfloor must be measured, in order to decide which type of luminaires (preferably LEDs) are mounted in which number and in which colors. In the year 2018 almost exclusively LEDs are used, because this technology has prevailed due to its luminosity, longevity and variety of colors. The lights get their power mostly from the cigarette lighter, installation kits are included. The variety of colors is limitless, the effect thrills everyone. By the way: You can find out which penalties threaten in the event of incorrectly activated or not activated lighting in our large article onLights on the car: function, regulations, fines“Read.
