Android Auto Wireless: Wireless with compatible vehicles!

Android Auto is also known as Google's infotainment system for the vehicle. So far, the functions of Android Auto could only be used with an Android phone (> Android version 5) including the Android Auto app and an existing USB cable connection. And only in compatible vehicles. The USB cable is rather annoying on short trips and should soon be a thing of the past. Google has a solution that works without fixed cabling. Below is closer to wireless Android Auto (Android AutoWireless) Solutions for compatible vehicles.

USB cable connection was essential

Compatible vehicles require a USB connection in order to use the functions of Android Auto. To get a connection, an Android phone with at least Android version 5 must be used. Of course, the connection can also be used with newer Android versions. In addition to the USB cable and Android smartphone, the Android car app has so far been necessary for a wired solution in Germany. In times of Bluetooth & WLAN as well as mobile connectivity, wired connections are no longer desirable and often annoying. Google therefore introduced wireless support at the end of 2019. However, this was only reserved for certain countries and wireless support has not yet been used in Germany. In the meantime, Google has also made Android Auto Wireless possible for Germany and other countries.

Support can be expanded

However, only certain smartphones, such as those from Samsung, are currently supported. Google's Pixels can of course also be used as an Android reference platform. This is at least a start, but there is still room for improvement. All modern vehicles should eventually benefit from wireless support for Android Auto. Wide use on the car market is therefore possible in the medium term. According to its own statements, the automaker BMW supports Android Auto. It remains to be seen how the Android Auto wireless support will be expanded and when a driver can safely and wirelessly benefit from the advantages of the system.
