Angel Eyes: fashions of the early millennium years

In the early 2000s in particular, it was very popular in the tuning scene to optimize the halogen headlights of the models available at the time with so-called angel eyes. When xenon headlights and LED low beam were still completely foreign to most tuners, many tuning vehicles at the time were upgraded with double-decker headlights called Angel Eyes in order to achieve a special light effect at night. These angel eyes were particularly popular on models such as the VW Golf IV or the BMW Dreier (E46). This is a very cheap method to optimize the car, which achieves a great show effect at night and can be easily implemented even for beginners. Parking light rings - when four eyes attract more attention than two. By the way, there is more about headlights in our large overview "Headlights from halogen to LED to xenon - an indispensable companion"!

When BMW presented the facelift of the Fünfer series (E39), the experts were amazed when, for the first time, parking light rings for the headlights were introduced in a production vehicle. It was not long before the tuner scene realized that stand-light rings are not only effective, but also create a cool look in the stand during the night. They quickly became the trademark of BMW and of course BMW fans worldwide, who retrofitted and still retrofitted their older models with side light rings. In the meantime, other manufacturers have also discovered the side light rings, such as the Chinese carmaker Mute, which also includes standard parking lights in its models.

Advantages of Angel Eyes and parking light rings:

- cheap and easy to install tuning option
- cool look, especially at night and with the lights on.

Disadvantages of Angel Eyes and parking light rings:

- Retrofitting of newer models with LED headlights or Xenon lights is not possible.
- Angel eyes have now acquired a dubious image.
- possible depreciation and poorer resale opportunities for models with angel eyes

So you have to decide for yourself whether you want to retrofit Angel Eyes (also known as Corona rings) or side light rings, but in any case you do not go wrong if you want a cool look that draws everyone's attention even at night.
