If you use Apple Carplay on your vehicle, it will become really individual. There is an update to the version iOS 12 in the fall and thus brings now also third-party navigation apps such as Google Maps, Waze or HERE WeGo into the vehicle. That was not possible so far the Apple Carplay was limited exclusively to the in-house Navi service Apple Maps. Later this month, there will be a beta version that allows the download of third-party navigation apps. A quite meaningful extension as we find Apple Maps offers so far, for example, no offline maps and so you rely on Internet reception and a Datenflat.
Real-time messages from community members such as Waze were also not available or, if so, only via the iPhone in the vehicle. This is now being followed and the options for third-party apps that Apple approved in January in the form of WhatsApp & Co. are being expanded. After Apple originally presented Carplay with Volvo in 2014, almost every manufacturer is now on board. The competition is called Android Auto, by the way, and is also linked directly to the vehicle's infotainment system and offers the option of playing music from Spotify using voice commands, for example.
