After we already have the Benefits from chip tuning, we would now like to explain the disadvantages, especially for leased vehicles. The first thought is of course tempting. A few euros invested and the tired engine comes up trumps with significantly more power and the difference to the next larger engine seems to have been overcome. Particularly in the field of diesel engines, the possibilities of chip tuning and their offers seem almost endless. We have summarized a few possible disadvantages of chip tuning for you:

Chiptuning - careful! That can cause trouble ...

  • with a leased car one should leave the fingers of the Chiptuning
  • Every increase in performance must be subjected to an assessment by an expert and approved (entry in the vehicle documents - if the tuning is not approved and entered by an auditor, the vehicle's operating license expires)
  • the insurance company must of course also be informed about the tuning
  • chip tuning often worsens exhaust and noise behavior
  • Chiptuning can fall into the category of "unauthorized use" for leased vehicles (see Oberlandesgericht Frankfurt 12 U 137/13 - Quote: A non-proprietary increase in the performance of a leasing vehicle (so-called chip tuning) also justifies excessive, non-contractual wear and tear of the leasing item if it was only temporarily used and returned for a not inconsiderable period of time. The measurement of the mercantile inferior value of the leasing vehicle by means of the estimate according to In cases of excessive wear, section 287 (2) ZPO does not take place abstractly with a fraction of the agreed residual value, but taking into account the traffic concept and the amount of expected repair costs.
  • Potential buyers of the vehicle who are aware of the tuning may only pay a lower price
